Can Food Help My Itchy Dog?
Scratching, biting and rubbing are signs of what is happening under your dog's coat. Skin issues in dogs can be due to food sensitivities and environmental irritants.
About Food Sensitivities
Food sensitivities are reactions to normally harmless proteins in the diet and can occur with a dog of any age. A food sensitivity is determined by a food elimination trial which is performed under the supervision of a veterinarian. Your veterinarian may choose a diet that contains hydrolyzed proteins (ones that have already been partially broken down) or novel proteins (ones that your pet is unlikely to have been exposed to).

Signs of Food Sensitivity
Sensitivities to the proteins in your dog's food or environmental irritants can result in a variety of clinical signs and only your veterinarian can determine if a veterinary-exclusive diet is appropriate for your pet. If a diet change is recommended, for best results, it is very important to feed only that food while strictly adhering to your veterinarian's feeding directions.

What About Enviromental Irritants
Like you, your dog can have sensitivities to certain things in the environment such as pollens, house dust or even fleas. Your veterinarian may recommend a diet that contains optimal amounts of vitamins and nutrients which helps reinforce your dog's skin barrier.

Best dogfood for skin allergies
By LMedley on Jan 31, 2021
My Jack Russell suffers from horrible food allergies and skin allergies. This is the only dogfood I've found that keeps his skin condition at bay. He loves it too which is a huge bonus! I was excited to see that Royal Canin is making it for small dogs now. The larger kibbles were hard from him to clear from his teeth resulting in tarter build up. This was the best news of the day for me !!! Thank you Royal Canin.

Restored our dog’s health.
By Gail on Jan 4, 2021
This food along with the same canned prescription food and CBD oil has restored our dog’s health to the point where she walls 3 miles a day, has a great appetite, has normal BM’s and is very happy. We were concerned about the possibility of having to put her down at one point because she barely ate, had undigested BM’s that sometimes were bloody had stomach pain and no energy. At that ooint her quality of life was minimal. Now her inflammatory bowel disease is under control and well managed. The cost is worth it.

No more licking
By Rosie on Feb 7, 2021
Rosie would like her feet and legs so bad, down to the skin. While I was trying everything the vet suggested, my little Rosie had all these spots on all her legs and feet. This dog food and the treats, she stopped immediately, hair grew back. No more biting and licking her hair off.

WOWSER!!!!
By itybity1 on Dec 7, 2020
For several months our female Chinese Crested has had digestive issues including, vomiting, diarrhea, terrible gas and a very poor appetite. We've lost count of the vet trips in an effort to figure out what's going on; blood work, x-rays, diet modifications and prescribed various meds has yielded less than satisfactory results, leaving us with our poor little dog withering away to skin and bones. In sheer desperation we sought help from another vet that not only practices traditional medicine but holistic as well. During the consultation and based on her history and his exam, he asked if we had tried hydrolyzed protein....Um no, never heard of it but we'll try just about anything at this point For several months our female Chinese Crested has had digestive issues including, vomiting, diarrhea, terrible gas and a very poor appetite. All I can say is WOW! Not only did she LOVE the food, she has shown ZERO ill-effects. With a dog that won't eat much of anything, it's difficult to "transition" her from her old food to this new so we're just having to take it slow, but so far we are THRILLED and she clearly feels better. I hope this review helps others that might be going through the same or similar. We love our pets and will go to the ends of the earth to help them have a happy and healthy life! Thank you Royal Canin and thank you Chewy for the stellar customer service! … more

By Jackie on Jan 14, 2021
My Pomeranian, Bleu, had been having trouble keeping food down. We tried a GI food diet, but he continue to occasionally throw up. So our vet suggested this food. He has been on it now for a few weeks and, so far, he likes it and is keeping it down.
