How to Find the Best Fit: Select the carrier size based on your pet’s measurements first and then by your pet’s weight, making sure not to exceed the maximum weight limits. Also allow enough space for your pet to change positions while inside the carrier. Note: the carrier is designed for pets lying down, so your pet may not be able to stand.

How to Measure Your Pet: For pet’s length, start at the nape of the neck (where the collar falls) and measure to the base of the tail. For height, measure from the floor to the top of the shoulder.

FAQ

How Do I Know What Size Carrier Is Best For My Pet?

Please weigh and measure your pet carefully. The pet's length should be measured from the nape of the neck to the base of the tail. The pet's height should be measured when it is standing, from the floor to the shoulder. Please note, pets should have enough room to lie down comfortably but also stand up and turn around should they wish to change positions.

How Do I Fold My Carrier When Not In Use?

  • Remove the faux lambskin liner from the stability board
  • Detach the stability board from the carrier by pulling up the Velcro tabs on either end
  • Secure the faux lambskin liner back onto the stability board and move to the top of the carrier so the liner and board are beneath the U-shaped opening
  • Fold either end of the carrier down and underneath the liner and board
  • Store in a clean, dry place for future use

Does My Sherpa Carrier Push Down?

All Sherpa carriers are soft-sided and made with a patented spring wire frame in the rear of the bag. The spring wire frame allows the back end to be pushed down several inches to slide beneath the airline seat without restricting the pet's head room.

What Does Airline Approved Mean?

Airline Approved means that a carrier:

  • Provides adequate ventilation
  • Is leak-proof
  • Safely encloses the pet

What Does Guaranteed On Board Mean?

Guaranteed On Board is the only program that guarantees a Sherpa carrier meets an airline's specific rules and regulations and will be allowed on board. All small and medium Sherpa carriers are included in the GOB program. However, the medium size carrier is not Guaranteed On Board on ALL of the airlines included in the program.

Why Is My Airline Not Listed On The Guaranteed On Board Site?

Just because a particular airline is not included in the Guaranteed On Board program it does not mean your carrier will not be allowed on board, just that you will need to confirm directly with the airline. Please note, our carriers are soft-sided and made with a patented spring wire frame that allows the back end to be pushed down several inches to slide beneath the airline seat without restricting the pet's head room.

My Carrier Is Larger Than What The Airline Specifies As Being Permitted In-Cabin. Will It Be Allowed On Board?

Please check with airline directly. Some airlines allow carriers that are larger than the dimensions they specify if the carrier is soft-sided and pushes down. All Sherpa carriers are made with a patented spring wire frame in the rear of the bag which allows the end to be pushed down several inches to conform to the under seat dimensions without restricting the pet's head room or compromising the structural integrity of the bag.

I Cannot Find My Style / Size Carrier On The Drop-Down Menu On The Gob Form. Is It Allowed On Board My Airline?

No. If the style / size carrier you have is not included in a particular airline's GOB page it is not Guaranteed On Board that particular airline because its dimensions exceed what the airline specifies as being allowed on board.

  • It's OK - just adequate for the money paid

I was disappointed in this product. I bought a medium for my 5 pound mix dog. She fit in it well. The padding was easily pawed off the velcro closures and was very thin. I bought a new cushier one. The zippers were very poorly sewn in and kept getting caught on the facing inside, one pull becoming unusable (fortunately they had double pulls so I could still close it all the way.) The front main opening zipper had a place where the zipper was an uneven length so it wouldn't close all the way. Again fortunately, it could be put at the very bottom and my dog left it alone. The carrier worked well under the plane seat, fit well under aisle, middle and window. The top sagged when freestanding so it made it that much shorter for my dog. The pocket didn't hold much and wasn't used. After using the carrier for my trip, I wished I had bought one with coverings for the windows. I think it would have been a cozier spot especially in the airport terminal. I did like the top opening for getting my girl out and in of the carrier at security and for letting her stretch her neck and get petted once in awhile. For the money, it was just an adequate carrier for the job. … more

  • It works but...

    By on

Personally, I am not a fan of the soft top carriers as the unknown accident may occur. I was just worried all the time and yes the top does come down a little cramping space even more. This did work well with two kittens (two carriers) with American airlines. I do not really understand the two different zip options on each end. Please be aware that you will have to take your animal out of this at TSA as they must scan this. Arrive early and ask for a private screening which added about 15 min.

  • Easy Travel!

    By on

My Maltese loved this carrier from the very start and settled in comfortably. It is excellent quality, good-looking (light charcoal gray) and sturdy without being cumbersome. Traveled well in the airplane seat and on the Amtrack train ride. I ordered the smallest size available and although it was labeled medium, my five pound fur baby felt very secure and comfortable without adding anything to the nice sherpa floor. I am very pleased with this carrier.

  • small pet carrier

The carrier is well made and I like the way the one side collapses for tight areas. Have not used it on a trip as of this moment. It is a tight fit for breeds with long backs.

  • Worked Great for Cat's First Flight

    By on

We bought this carrier for an AA flight for our 16 year old cat, and it worked perfectly! Our cat is nearly 12 pounds, and fairly long, so I was concerned the carrier would be too small for her. When we got the carrier, I was still concerned so I took her to the vet in the carrier to get our vet's opinion before the flight. The trip to the vet was unlike any other we had previously taken with our oversized plastic carrier - our cat normally hates the car, and cries most of the way there, but seemed really content on the ride over. Our vet assured as that even though it seemed "too small" our cat would probably be more comfortable (feel more "secure") in something smaller. In any case, she did great on the flight. Because the carrier was soft sided, she was able to turn and ended up laying sideways most of the 2 hour trip. All in all a great purchase - I would highly recommend. … more
