I LOVE this scoop. It is sturdy, nice looking for a cat litter scoop. Well-made and over-sized. I should have bought this scoop years ago! I have gone through so many cheap plastic scoops that I could have bought 4 of these. The larger holes in the scooper allow less waste of clean litter. This scoop is industrial and will end up saving you money due to the litter you don't end up throwing away.
AS MOST PEOPLE OFTEN START OUT WITH THE STORE BOUGHT PLASTIC SCOOPS...I WAS 1 OF 'EM. THEN CAME THE CLUMPING LITTER. IT WAS HARD 2 CLEAN THE BOTTOM OF THE BOX AT TIMES & I THOUGHT I NEEDED 2 GET A NEW SCOOP B4 THE OLD 1 BROKE. GLAD I DID. IT WAS WELL WORTH THE MONEY AND IS THE BEST SCOOP 4 "CLUMPING" LITTER.
This is still better and more durable than a plastic litter scoop, but urine-soaked clay litter will stick to this scooper and will require cleaning afterwards. I do disinfect it after every use as well because it does stick and the clumps can get into the grooves. Maybe it would work better with a non-clumping litter, but I have not tried.
Its best to keep the litter high so the pee clump of litter doesn't stick to the bottom of the pan. But if you get stuck, NOTHING works like this metal scooper. And it took me a long time to figure it out; so don't let it take you a long time to get one. Cat owner for 50 years, and what a wonderful lifetime they have given me.
When this new scooper arrived, the first thing I was taken by was the size. It's big! I actually had to put a longer nail in to hold it between uses! However, that said, it's also very well constructed and comfortable to use. It works really well at filtering out what I want to remove and leaving the sand behind. Plus, the size is actually a perk, not a hindrance as I thought it might be, when working with the clumping type sand, which actually broke down my old plastic scooper. I really like this product and think it will last a long time.
I ordered this particular scoop because I am tired of the plastic one which seem to break often. Actually my last one lasted longer than most (about a year). This one seems very sturdy and I like the smooth edge with which I can scrape the sides of the box. Will update this review over time as needed.
Love how easy it is to get the box cleaned quickly. We use an unscented clumping litter. With a Frisco high sided box and a honeycomb mat. So much better and easier than we I had a cat in my 'youth'. I bought 3, one for each litter box.
I wanted a big, solid metal scoop. I have 3 cats and they can make some big messes together, so I wanted something to get that muck up off the bottom of the litter box without flinging it everywhere. It works for that purpose, however, the nonstick coating lasted less than a month. Now it sticks terribly to the point where I have to stop during cleaning and try to pick the stuff from between the holes so it continues to sift the litter. It's as if the nonstick came off and glue is on it now. It's gross. There are better products available. Don't get this one.
We're a 3-cat household so there's a fair amount of scooping going on. This scoop is STURDY and the slots are small enough to catch those annoying little clumps. I'm going to get one for everyone on next year's Christmas list.
Investing in a metal scoop rather than a plastic one is a must, in my opinion. Because it's metal, it won't bend when trying to scoop the litter aside/up/etc. It's only been my first week using it, but it's been such a game changer so far. While I wouldn't mind if the holes were smaller so the sifting would work better, I haven't seen any scooper that has smaller holes.
