Questions & Answers

9 Customer Questions

Are any ingredients obtained from China and used in Virbac products?

Where are these made and sourced?

Answer by ChewyJan 06, 2026
The Virbac C.E.T. Enzymatic Dental Chews for Small Dogs hides are sourced from North American cattle and made in Mexico.

How is this different from a raw hide chew? I thought you weren’t supposed to give this type of product to your dog because of the possibility of intestinal blockages?

Answer by ChewyDec 28, 2020
With any Virbac chews they never recommend them be given to dogs if they are gulpers. Adequate chewing action is required to achieve the benefits of the chew. Gulping the chews will reduce the efficacy and can be harmful to pets. The chews are 95.79% digestible, the stomach acids help break down the chews as well.

What is the “poultry digest”? Can my dog with a chicken intolerance eat these?

Answer by ChewyMar 14, 2023
Poultry Digest is a poultry protein source that enhances the taste of your pet's treat. If your dog has an intolerance to chicken, it is not recommend giving them Virbac C.E.T. Enzymatic Dental Chews. We recommend the Virbac VeggieDent Fr3sh instead, since it is a plant-based chew.

My dog Ralphie ended up with a bowel obstruction. Three consecutive days at the regular vet: xray, fluid bolus, abdominal ultrasound. My dog was so sick. He came close to dying. Finally at day 3 of vet visits (~ $2500) they said we needed to take him to the emergency vet. The final bill there was over $12,500. They said it would be $9K max. We couldn’t pay the final $3k so that’s going to collections and will become a real hassle. Anyway, my dog is fine now, but I’m not sure if saving him was the right thing to do because of the financial burden.

Really upset because....

3/4 of the bag are for a large dog not a smaller dog. It's not unusual for there to be chews that are to large for a small bred, but lately it's getting worse. I

Julio would chew other products a few times until he could bite off pieces & then swallow. These rawhides force him to really chew each evening for about an hour. Then we throw it away when it gets soft or it's time to go to bed. He is 12 lbs and the small size (11-25 lbs) is large enough to preclude gulping down in one piece. His teeth & breath look/smell awesome. Worth the price & the time needed to supervise. He's required dental cleaning twice since we adopted him 3 years ago. These chews have reversed plaque build up since his last cleaning in April & fingers crossed we can minimize surgical dental cleaning in the future. It took awhile for Julio to learn to enjoy the chewing because he had become accustomed to biting off & swallowing pieces of other dental products. Patience paid off & our pre-bedtime ritual of watching him chew these rawhides has turned into one of his favorite activities.

These are tricky. You think they are going to be great treats that your dog will chew for an hour. But all 3 of mine scarfed them down within minutes. They are way too thick to not be chewed up. (some are super thick!) All 3 of my dogs must've been blocked up at different times but same scenario- some vomiting, trouble pooping, diarrhea, a little blood in diarrhea. Gave them rice, sweet potatoes and pumpkin and they were able to poop out the piece of dental chew after a few days and back to normal. Luckily they didnt require vet treatment or surgery. The treats themselves were pricey too and I dont even want to donate them to anyone because I dont want them to get hurt!

Best dental treat

My 2 dogs love these treats and I have noticed a difference in their teeth. I love that it keeps them busy for 10 to 15 mins so that is a treat for me!

My girl tried to swallow part of this whole and it got stuck in her throat where it expanded and had to be removed under anesthesia with a scope. The er vets said that complications with these treats are not uncommon. That being said, they did do wonders for her teeth and breath before the incident happened. I wouldn't ever offer them to one of my pets again, but if you chose to, definitely don't leave them with these unsupervised.

My little Jack Russell is prone to plaque build-up. He has to get dental cleanings. I bought this to help his teeth especially in the back and it seems to really get the hard to reach areas when he chews on it! He loves this treat and looks forward to it. I haven't noticed it causing any problems for him. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because the size variety of these treats are silly. Some of them look like they should be in a larger sized dog bag which could present an issue. The package states to give the dogs the proper sized treat for their safety, but then has some very small and some very big.

They came highly recommended by our Veterinarian. Our girls loved them so much! They wouldn't dissolve or chew up at all. My girls were wanting to eat it whole after chewing on it for awhile. Made me afraid it could get Stuck in their throats? I have a whole brandnew bag sitting there.
