MY CAT IS FINICKY, BUT I WENT AHEAD AND DECIDED TO TRY THIS TOOTHPASTE FOR HIM. HE ABSOLUTELY LOVES IT...ON IT'S OWN...SO MUCH SO THAT IT'S HARD TO EVEN BRUSH HIS TEETH AND I STARTED BRUSHING HIS TEETH WHEN HE WAS JUST A FEW MONTHS OLD. I BELIEVE THE MALT FLAVOR IS WHAT HE'S AFTER...HA HA HA :) I WISH A CAT FOOD COMPANY WOULD MAKE ''MALT FLAVORED'' CAT FOOD! THIS WAS A GOOD BUY. WILL PURCHASE IT AGAIN WHEN IT COMES TIME.
I can’t use any other toothpaste. Has to be malt flavor or they won’t tolerate it.
My cat hated toothpaste when I tried poultry or tuna flavors but he’s obsessed with the malt flavor. I use a silicone nubby brush and he comes running when he knows it’s tooth brushing time. We brush teeth twice a day. Gluteus Maximus is only 2 1/2 so I wouldn’t expect major dental problems at that age, but the vet always comments on how great his teeth look. Dentals at the vet are expensive. 100% worth it for the well being of your pet, but expensive. So using a malt flavored toothpaste and establishing a routine will hopefully keep me from having to do too many professional dental cleanings.
The vanilla mint smells the best, but my cat didn't love it. Most recently bought the malt flavor, which my cat thinks is a treat! She'll come running over when she sees my with her toothbrush. The malt doesn't have much scent, which I consider a win.
I have three cats that have tried this toothpaste, one will lick/bite it off the brush, the other two are repulsed and literally recoil if they smell the toothpaste on my finger. I'm thrilled that one likes it, because she has severe allergies and can't have dental treats or most other flavors. One of the repulsed cats will do anything for a squeeze treat including have his butt shaved, but even wouldn't lick a 50/50 combo of toothpaste and treat off the brush, the smell of the toothpaste overpowered the treat. This product would be five stars if it was a consistent hit or came in a variety pack of mini tubes so that you can try more flavors without spending a ton. Cats are not like dogs, they will not do something they don't want to do, and the flavors seem to be extremely either hit or miss.
Typically we buy the vanilla-mint flavor toothpaste from CET, but we decided to try something new. Our dog isn't picky at all and she is very used to having her teeth brushed so no issues for us. She likes this flavor, but is a VERY enthusiastic eater and tends to like anything :) The only thing I would mention is this flavor doesn't really have a minty smell or really any smell. If anything, the malt smell is VERY subtle, almost sweet. That being said, if you are very sensitive to fragrance/odors, I think you might find it a little odd, but not off-putting.
My dog's vet recommended this brand it works well to give him fresh breath (before his breath smelled like an old seafood buffet). I got the malt flavor one since I wasn't sure if my dog would like mint and he's allergic to chicken. The other option was beef, but that seemed stinky. The malt is good and he enjoys getting his teeth brushed now.
Bear loves this malt flavor of toothpaste. It at least lets me get into his mouth with the brush, with or without the paste on it, then the paste as a treat after. Not sure how much good it does, but he is 17 and the vet said his teeth look fine, so there ya go!
I was using an expensive toothpaste I purchased at my local pet store and my senior dog still had bad breath and a lot of plaque. (High cost doesn’t mean anything I’ve learned). I decided to try this after reading some good reviews. My dogs bad breath is completely gone and her teeth look a lot better. There’s still a little plaque but it hasn’t even been a month yet. She also likes the flavor. I am definitely going to continue to use this brand and flavor.
My dog loves this brand of toothpaste. We normally get the poultry flavor but wanted to try something new. She still enjoys it, but it definitely doesn't help with the smell of her breath like the poultry flavor.
