Cheristin for cats (spinetoram) is a topical flea protection that is specifically designed for cats. While monthly application is recommended, it starts killing fleas in just 30 minutes and protects your cat for up to 6 weeks.
Cheristin starts killing fleas in just 30 minutes to provide quick relief for your cat. In a controlled study, it killed 98-100% of fleas within 12 hours.
How long does Cheristin last? While monthly application is recommended, a single dose of Cheristin kills adult fleas for up to 6 weeks.
Cheristin kills fleas. Its active ingredient, spinetoram, starts killing fleas in just 30 minutes and remains effective for up to 6 weeks to keep your cat protected from fleas, although monthly application is recommended.
No. Cheristin is available online and at retail outlets without a prescription.
Cheristin is a quick-drying, topical solution that isn't greasy or messy. It has a rounded applicator that makes it easy to apply and comfortable for your cat. Cheristin is only for cats and kittens eight weeks of age or older and weighing 1.8 pounds or more. Always read, understand and follow the label and use directions.
HOW TO APPLY:
Discard the empty applicator tube in the trash.
We recommend applying Cheristin monthly. For best results, apply at the base of the head—not between the shoulder blades—to minimize the chances of your cat licking the product. Avoid getting the product in your cat's eyes or mouth.
Can Cheristin be administered to large and small cats?
Cheristin is a low-volume, one-size-fits-all solution for cats and kittens 8 weeks of age or older and 1.8 pounds or greater, which makes it ideal for families with multiple cats.
Not at all. Cheristin kills adult fleas in 30 minutes after contact. If you see fleas on your cat, they are most likely new adult fleas that will die very quickly.
If there are any fleas in your cat's environment, it can take weeks or even months for flea larvae to emerge and grow into adults. Cheristin kills adult fleas before they can lay eggs, breaking the flea lifecycle.
All cats in the household should be treated with an approved flea protection product to minimize the likelihood of flea reinfestation. It may also be necessary to apply an approved flea treatment product to your carpet and furniture in an attempt to remove the presence of fleas in your cat's environment. Low-volume dosage is one-size-fits-all for cats or kittens 8 weeks of age and older that weigh 1.8 pounds or greater. Maintain consistent monthly application of Cheristin to provide continual flea protection for your cat and prevent future infestations.
Yes. Effectiveness studies have demonstrated that a single tube of Cheristin topical solution is appropriate for, and welltolerated by, cats and kittens 8 weeks of age and older that weigh 1.8 pounds or greater.
No. Giving a partial dose should not be done and is inconsistent with product labeling. Cheristin is one-size-fits-all solution that's ideal for families with multiple cats. Since its low-volume dose is gentle enough for all cats and kittens 8 weeks of age and older that weigh 1.8 pounds or greater, you'll want to be sure to apply an entire single dose to each of your cats.
Cheristin is not approved for use in dogs. Dogs and cats respond to medications differently. Cheristin is specifically designed for cats with an ingredient not found in other flea solutions. Cheristin has been rigorously tested and approved by the EPA for use specifically on cats. I have multiple cats that lick each other.
In multiple cat households, do not allow the cats to groom each other until the product has dried.
There are no known interactions between Cheristin and any EPA-registered or FDA-approved flea control (treatment) product for cats at labeled dosages. Please consult with your veterinarian if you have questions about medications that you are using on your cat. Is Cheristin safe to use with other medications? While there are no known medication interactions with Cheristin, it's important to discuss all of your cat's current medications with your veterinarian.
Cheristin is available in 1-, 3- and 6-dose packages. What are the potential side effects of Cheristin? Side effects may include application site reactions such as hair loss, hair change (greasy, clumping or matting) or redness, inflammation and itching. Other side effects such as inactivity, vomiting and loss of appetite have also been reported. View product label for complete safety information and always talk with your veterinarian.
Fleas rise to the top of your pet's coat as they die, so consider it a triumph if you start seeing more fleas at first, after treating your pet. If you’re still seeing fleas after application, it may be because your pet has picked up new fleas from the environment, which may include other pets, surfaces and outdoor areas. It may take up to 30 days to break the entire flea life cycle. Additionally, you should also treat sources of new fleas (i.e., carpet, yard, etc.) to ensure complete flea control.

I recently purchased Cheristin for my cats and finally I have found drops that work! Advantage II wasn't working so I tried Nextstar and that didn't work either. Capstar always works but I needed something that would last all month and also repel fleas. I bought Cheristin and I'm happy with the results. It is a little messy and there is a lot in the tube. But that's fine if it works I'm ok with a little messy.. Also I'd like to just give some advice to people who may not know. Always read the directions. And please watch your cat after applying any kind of flea drops. If they act funny or start salivating excessively bath them in Dawn asap. If you give them a flea pill and they act funny or salivate excessively get them to the vet asap. I've had to do both of things for one of my cats. I always put the drops on earlier in the day so I can keep a close eye my cats.
I’ve been using Cheristin for my 8lb cat for about a year now. It’s actually crazy how quick it starts to work. Twice in this last year ive forgotten and had to order flea meds going a week or so past my “give cat flea meds” sticker on the calendar. During both of those in-between times I started getting those itchy flea bites right on my ankle. Literally the day after giving my cat her meds no more bites. We live in an apartment where many of our neighbors also have cats but this medicine works wonders as long as we stay consistent.
I tried a different allergy topical treatment for my cat and found it did not work for even a week. Fleas are rampant outside now in our area (San Diego). They are in sand, they are in soil, and they are in grasses. It is an uphill battle. Ranger's fleas began dying immediately. He did not make licking the treatment off his sole purpose for living - which is a first - so I found that alone remarkable. He has started scratching again and it is still well within the 30-day period in which Cheristin is supposed to work. But fleas must bite in order to die. I see no mass invasion. I bought some natural product wipes for this interim which I use on his face and head to keep the bugs from his ears, chins, etc. So far, any fleas I have seen where he has lain were dying or dead. I received my order in 48 hours even though I ordered it on a weekend. Very impressed with Chewy!
My cat had an adverse reaction to Cheristin which caused a large patch of his fur on the application site to fall out, leaving a substantial bald patch. Chewy customer service was great and refunded my purchase immediately and encouraged me to report the adverse reaction to the manufacturer. I would recommend to pet owners that they use another flea control product if their cat has allergies or sensitive skin.
This flea treatment was a life saver. The day after I put this on my cats I had dead fleas everywhere. After two weeks I am not finding any fleas in my home or on my cats. Highly recommend Cheristin. Thank you for a great product that really works. Worth the price.
I was skeptical that this would work. I had tried everything on my cats. After 1 application, my cats are flea free. It really did work in 30 minutes. It has been 2 weeks since I put the product on the cats, and they remain flea free. Will recommend and will purchase again!
I have spent a monumental amount of money on different flea treatments over the counter and at the veterinarian's office and this product I applies one time to all my babies and it killed every flea and all the eggs and my cats are the happiest they have been in a long time. I won't use anything else again. I would recommend this to anyone who has Flea problems, we were over run with them and nothing else worked.
This is the only topical medication that has ever worked on my babies! We’ve tried everything else and would continue to find fleas. Our babies are finally flea free! I couldn’t recommend this stuff enough!
Actually I mean fleas & ticks. I have 3 cats so there was only 1 treatment in the box. It seems to be working ok. The cats ate still scratching but not as much. I will be buying at least one more box.
As the title says. It seems to work since we haven't had a flea issue (knock on wood). We switch between this and revolution since the latter is too expensive for us to afford monthly. This goes on really stinky and makes the cat fur gross, kind of like what I think would happen if you put hair gel on the cat's fur. It hurts my throat from being around it - i dont know if it's the stinky smell or harsh chemicals, so I'm sure it's more unpleasant for cats. I suspect it causes lethargy in one of my cats the next day after applying. But I'm glad to have a cheaper alternative and no serious health issues.
