Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

Days 3-4 | 50% | 50% |
Days 5-6 | 25% | 75% |

How do I order veterinary diets?
- Search for the diet your veterinarian recommends and add it to your cart. You can purchase your veterinary diets along with any other items you need.
- At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
- Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.
I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?
Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We're here for you 24/7.

Cat with diabetes
By RescueCats on Jan 31, 2021
Our cat, nearly 13 years old, has been diagnosed with diabetes. The vet sent a prescription to Chewy so we could get the food he needs. I couldn't get it at the local pet stores, so Chewy moved up another notch in the positive review - they are already a 10 in our book for several years!

This food may be a lifesaver for my 18 year old baby
By Mitz on Jan 1, 2021
The m/d prescription food from chewy for my precious 18 year old cat that has diabetes seems to be the answer to my biggest problem in life. I was so afraid that she wouldn’t accept this new food because we had spoiled her with any food that tasted good to her, but she loves the science diet m/d as if it was made for her. We are over joyed about this.

Diabetes Kitty Getting Better
By Bets on Jan 15, 2021
I saw an improvement with my cat's diabetes symptoms within a week of starting this food. He urinates less and isn't peeing outside of the box deliberately. He will still need insulin, but the food is a good step toward helping diabetes kitty feel better.

He really ate it
By BuddiesMom on Dec 27, 2020
Buddie is a carb-a- holic. A picky one at that. His Vet had me switch to m/d kibble because it's more protein, less carbs. Thought he would reject it as he hates Science Diet, but so far so good.

Saved My Mom's CAt's Life
By Lexie on Oct 14, 2020
About 7 years ago, my mother's cat, Oscar was diagnosed with diabetes. Vet said he would have to have two insulin shots a day. Or be put down. My mother is elderly and not able to give shots to Oscar who is a very large cat (not fat). Another vet recommended trying Hills Prescription Gluco Support and it made all the difference. It is good for the other cat to help prevent diabetes and they are both still happily eating this life saving food. Oscar lost weight, and goes through a lot of water and litter, but he is still playful and affectionate.

Hill's GlucoSupport Prescription Diet
By Bsnlinda on Nov 10, 2020
I just had to put my cat on this for diabetes. Hills has been great for my cats and I am pleased that I have this Hill's dry food as a choice for her, since she refuses to eat wet food. Chewy was helpful in getting my vet's authorization and their choices and service have always been the best.
