Questions & Answers

Will this be made available in the smaller cans? My cat is very picky and only likes food right after it’s opened and portions are too large. I’d need the pate, not the smaller canned food in gravy.
Answer by ChewyAug 30, 2019
At this time, the manufacturer only makes this food in the 5.5 ounce can.

Does the Hills Diabetes canned cat food contain carrageenan
Answer by ChewyApr 12, 2022
This recipe contains Carrageenan.

Would like to be 100% positive. My cat was diagnosed as diabetic this week. My understanding is he should not have potato's or corn starch, this foods new formula has both. (No potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn starches or peas.)
Answer by ChewyAug 25, 2019
Due to your pet's diagnosed condition, we recommend consulting your Veterinarian to see what would be a good fit for your pet's current treatment plan.

How many carbs are in 1 can?

Expensive Rx Food

After purchasing this expensive Rx cat food, I was holding my breath when I fed it to my diabetic cat, Davey. At first he loved it and I was relieved but with half of the case left he doesn’t like it very much. He’s always leaving a lot left to dry out and I scoop it into the garbage. I think he likes a variety and not the same thing every day all day. I don’t know what else he can eat.

Works well for diabetic cat

This food is great, my cat loves it. It’s effectively helped her lose weight as well as keep her blood sugar within range. This food also put her in diabetic remission, which was fantastic. The only suggestion I would say is to make smaller portions.

just too much

My cat enjoys this food very much. But unfortunately it only comes in this large size can. Once the can is open and I only serve 1/2 of the can, after refrigeration, he will not eat the rest and it is wasted. I have tried wrapping the remainder in Saran wrap to keep out the air and then I put it in a dish and wait until it reaches room temp. but he still won't eat. Please come up with the smaller cans and I will not have to waste half of it. It's just a shame to waste food.

Don't like

It takes my cat 3 days to eat 1 can of this food. I'm guessing it must taste pretty awful. It would be nice if it would come in another flavor rather than just liver. The food is way too pricey. I wouldn't complain if my cat would eat it.

Food switch for newly diabetic cat

Two cats, one diabetic, one not but they are nibblers not gobblers and share food and vet said ok to have both eat diabetic food. Well mixing with their old food, Wellness salmon pate, to this hasn't been bad. They are eating it which really surprised me, liver flavored, tried before and no way. So happy they are making the transition. Same with the dry food.

Not for me

Was eating Royal Canin brand wet food, but it's been out of stock for a while. Needed a sub. Used to eat regular Hills brand dry food, so figured it was a good choice. Might have received a bad batch though, because it smelled awful, and although I am starving I just couldn't get much of it down. Made my poo a bit off too. Kept trying can after can, but no luck. My human finally got something else for me to try and I can't get enough of it. Hope I gain a little weight back on this new stuff from Purina. Wish me luck!

I don't know

Chewy wanted me to do a review on this & honestly don't know if it's any better than the dry version, sadly my cat passed away of diabetes on January 25th & after eating the dry food for months and switching to the soft food, I only found this to come in one flavor which isn't very appealing to some cats

Buster Likes It Warm!

I noticed my cat, Buster, seemed to like the canned food best when it was first opened but not on day 2 when it was cold right out of the refrigerator. Now I heat it in the Microwave on low for 15 seconds and he wolfs it down. So if your cat is being picky, give it a try.

My cats love it

I am so glad my cats love it. First I was worried they wouldn’t eat the prescription food. They are happy and waiting for the food every night.
