Details
Insulin glargine is an injectable drug used to treat diabetes mellitus, and works by lowering blood sugar. While the FDA has approved insulin only for use in humans, veterinarians are allowed to prescribe it to animals such as dogs, cats, horses, cattle, ferrets and guinea pigs in certain situations. Insulin glargine should be refrigerated until it has been opened, and then it must be kept at room temperature. It should never be stored in the freezer and should be protected from direct heat and light.
