Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

Days 3-4 | 50% | 50% |
Days 5-6 | 25% | 75% |

Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.

Cats would not eat this.
By MotherOfNakeys on Mar 2, 2021
My 3 cats absolutely love the canned c/d Urinary Care/Stress chicken & vegetable stew. But that is available in only the 2.9 oz small size cans. Since this is available in the larger cans, I ordered a case. Unfortunately, my cats won’t go near it. One sniff and they bolt. Ugh. I’ll need to donate it to a rescue. (Their other favorites are Ziwi Venison and Solid Gold Turkey in Coconut Oil.)

Seeing more playtime
By Crazycatlady on Feb 4, 2021
One of my cats weighs 20 lbs. and needs to lose weight before he becomes a diabetic. Finding healthy quality food is imperative. Transitioning my 3 boys to completely prescription weight control and stress urinary foods, is going really well. I've noticed more playing and less anxiety. This food is extremely expensive, but I'm seeing improvement. Only two of the three cats will eat canned food. So I split one can between the two, and water it down. It fills them up and they like it. They also have healthy kibble to eat throughout the day. Its rare to see 3 empty bowls after 24 hours. We're still in transition with previous food, but I'm confident this will be a healthy beneficial alternative One of my cats weighs 20 lbs. and needs to lose weight before he becomes a diabetic. My Picky Cats wouldn't eat it
By PENNY4URTHTS on Mar 2, 2021
My cats wouldn't eat this. I had to buy this because my regular food is out of stock. I introduced it with what I had left of their regular food and they wouldn't touch it. Now it turns out that they have to be on a kidney care diet instead so I can stop trying to get them to eat this.

Changed formula?
By Rosie on Jan 25, 2021
This food was a MIRACLE CURE for my cat. My vet had her on five or six different things for her IBS over the years, but while suffering bladder stones they switched her to this - the dry version. She got terrible diarrhea. On a whim I tried a can of the wet and her stools are normal for the first time, no blood, and her clogged nose even cleared up! Ordered a case from Hills- she won't touch it. She is NOT a finicky eater! Thought it was a bad tray, ordered another from Chewy - my cat hates the smell of it, even if there's a bit on her dish she leaves the room! It doesn't smell as good at the 03/22 batch and has a different texture - it doesn't dry out like it did. Anyway I blew 50 on this This food was a MIRACLE CURE for my cat. Weight Management at its Best
By Kittylover on Feb 4, 2021
Mandy, our cat, says this is a “close second” to the chicken science diet. She has been slower to adopt this, but it has grown on her. I think she prefers the chicken flavor on the “light” food, but it was not helping her weight enough. We have seen some reduction already. We started out with the dry weight management, and added this, 1/2 can in morning to go with a 1/2 feeding of dry. This seems to be working well, as she is beginning to lose some weight.

Chubby Kitty losing weight - but it is Icky
By Laura on Jan 10, 2021
Ok- the pro, is that it works. My 15.1 lb. cat is now a 13.1 pound cat, and could stand to lose another pound or 2. Cons- It doesn't smell appetizing, so you have to make it clear to your cat this is the only option. My cat didn't eat for 2 days when I made the switch, but now comes running for it. For those of us who recycle cans, it is very sticky to clean out. Overall- My cat was developing a lot of health issues due to her weight. I'm willing to put up with the minor "cons" for the overall goal of good health with Quality Prescription food. My cat is truly thriving and more playful, whereas before was getting UTI's from not being able to clean herself.

Quick Service
By Buddy on Jan 21, 2021
Our cat Buddy needs to lose weight and our Veterinarian prescribed Hills Multi-Benefit w/d wet and dry food. The Vet ran out of the wet food and doesn't know when they will get more. The shelter from where we got Buddy recommended Chewy.com and our order was filled quickly. We will continue to use Chewy.com for this food and other things we may need over time.

This is so worth it!
By VannaNaomi on Jan 19, 2021
I got tired of going to the store and either they were out of stock or not enough and the struggle of carrying the whole thing to my car and to my house. It was really nice to have it delivered directly to my doorstep. And with the automatic re-order scheduled, it's nice that it's now just one less thing to worry about and have to remember.

prescription food
By Mittens on Jan 21, 2021
my cat was said to have a high glucose count but not diabetic. To prevent this I was instructed to give 1/2 can daily and nothing else. My cat came close to starvation. he would push the dog away and eat his food. i ended up changing his diet and he has lost some weight. my words are to be careful and listen to your cat.
