About Hill's Prescription Diet GI Biome Food for Dogs

Hill’s GI Biome Diet

Hill’s Prescription Diet Gastrointestinal Biome dog food takes a different approach to digestive care. Each formula uses a specific blend of active fibers, known as ActivBiome+, to help your dog’s stomach break down food more efficiently and promote healthier stools and regularity. It also contains Hill’s S+OX Shield ingredients, formulated to promote urinary health.

Activate the Gut Microbiome

When it comes to canine digestive health, the balance between good and bad bacteria is key. Promoting the growth of good bacteria helps keep problematic bacteria in check and supports ongoing digestive well-being.

Know the Signs of Digestive Issues

If you notice vomiting, diarrhea or soft stools, straining, stomach gurgling, flatulence, appetite changes, lethargy or depression in your dog, it may be from digestive trouble. See your vet for more insight and see if changing foods can help.

Risk Factors

Many things can trigger digestive issues in your pup, including food sensitivities, inflammation and bacterial, viral or parasite infections. Your vet can help determine what’s causing the trouble and figure out how diet can play a role.

Questions & Answers

9 Customer Questions

What is the shelf life once opened? Want to use this as a topper on her prescription dry food.
Answer by ChewyDec 29, 2020
After opening, canned products should be covered and stored in a refrigerator at 40 to 45 degrees Fahrenheit. In general, refrigerated canned foods should be used within five to seven days after opening. Canned products with high amounts of rice often have separation of water from the other canned product (free water will be seen at the bottom or around the side of the can) within a few days. This separation of water is called syneresis and does not change the nutritional characteristics of the food, but will affect food texture and possibly palatability. Since freezing dramatically changes the texture of canned products and adversely affects palatability, freezing canned pet food is not recommended either before or after opening.

Recipe change

Our vet switched our 8y Chihuahua with gastro issues to this high fiber recipe. He LOVED it so much and we had solid stools again and I was super happy having now a non-picky eater with no stomach issues anymore. I read initial reviews about recipe changes, but I guess I got one good last batch. Then the new cans got delivered and are SO saucy, less meaty and I ran through more cans I had to change my autoship to 2 weeks. Well now my dog isn’t even touching the food anymore and he rather eats dry food, which he usually doesn’t. I hope he gets through this phase or get better cans again. Sad that a company prescribed by veterinarians rather a makes more money and changes recipes instead of keeping up with the quality.

Happy eater

Have a boy that is a picky eater plus on occasion experiences tummy issues. With the recent loss of his bestest little buddy it triggered all sorts of problems for him. Our fab Vet suggested this particular Hills Science Diet. My boy loves it! I highly recommend it and buying from Chewy is the best! It’s easy and is delivered on time. Thank you my friends at Chewy.

Solid stools after 2 bouts of Acute Hemorrhagic Diarrhea Syndrome

This may save my 6 yr old terrier’s life, but I believe the serving size has changed since May. Initially, a 25 lb dog got 2 cans a day. Now a 20 lb dog gets 2 cans a day, and the food is a mess to serve. Helen’s face is drenched in gravy/soup after eating. If I thought the food was improved by the change I wouldn’t mind so much, but it was excellent before Hill’s started diluting it, presumably to make more money. I really don’t appreciate the changes to the food.

Incredible results!

My dog has suffered for so many years with tummy issues and since changing to Hills Biome just 2 weeks ago, he hasn't had one issue and is doing amazing. What I didn't expect was how much energy & endurance the change would make. Amazing how the wrong nutrition can have such a life changing impact.

Very happy with this product, Octavio was throwing up constantly and losing weight very fast dr recommend this for his condition and he doesn’t vomit anymore, it’s pricey so tried to change it little by little and he went back to vomiting, I’m not experimenting anymore. Product is excellent and he recovered weight and appetite. Sometimes saving some dollars makes on the long run to spend more. Excellent service and delivery with chewy. Thanks

Problems solved

As soon as my golden retriever mix started eating this diet, her chronic diarrhea stopped immediately. I suggested to a friend to give it to her dog also who suffered from chronic diarrhea. She also overcame it within a few days.

No More Antibiotics!

I was told my dog would be on antibiotics the rest of his life due to unexplained loose stools. I recently switched to a different vet, and he recommended Biome. I was amazed my dog likes it, and his poop is almost normal. I am looking forward to no more antibiotics.

EXCELLENT PRODUCT, EXCELLENT SERVICE

My dog, Roscoe, has been quite ill from ITP and probable IMHA secondary to tick bite. He developed diarrhea from the steroids, chemo and immunosuppressants. The vet suggested this product. The product arrived within 48hours, BLESS YOU! It advertises that stools should return to normal in 24 hours. Spot on! Within 18 hours normal poops thankfully. Must be very tasty as he gobbles it up. Probably the steroids but I need to give credit to Chewy for getting it here so quickly and starting Roscoe on the road to recovery.
