What is the shelf life once opened? Want to use this as a topper on her prescription dry food.

Answer by ChewyDec 29, 2020
After opening, canned products should be covered and stored in a refrigerator at 40 to 45 degrees Fahrenheit. In general, refrigerated canned foods should be used within five to seven days after opening. Canned products with high amounts of rice often have separation of water from the other canned product (free water will be seen at the bottom or around the side of the can) within a few days. This separation of water is called syneresis and does not change the nutritional characteristics of the food, but will affect food texture and possibly palatability. Since freezing dramatically changes the texture of canned products and adversely affects palatability, freezing canned pet food is not recommended either before or after opening.

Lola got super sick...I thought I was going to lose her. I won't go into all the details, but one thing is she wasn't eating . The vet put her on this and recommended she stay on it, at least for awhile. She absolutely loved it from the very beginning and so I've kept her on it and she's completely healed now. She even had some cysts under her skin that were getting pretty big and they have almost disappeared. I don't know if this dog food had anything to do with it but it's worked for her. She's 15

Medicated food for digestion

The food is good and the dog likes it, but it’s costly. I wish the science diet would lower the price because it is extremely hard to afford. As I also have to buy the dry food, which is crazy expensive. But did a fine job as usual. It’s not their fault about the price.

I have a large big dog with a history of tummy troubles. When we had a particularly bad bout of issues earlier this year, the vet prescribed this and it was a game changer! Fast-forward to the present and we are again having tummy troubles and he is refusing to eat this. I was so hoping it would be the magic cure once again, but unfortunately, not working for this round. I have two neighbors who have dogs with sensitive tummies, and they feed this for maintenance and their dogs love it. Sad it did not work us this time.

If I continue to receive damaged goods I will start getting my dogs prescription food somewhere else. Chewy used to package well with cardboard spacers to prevent damage. They have now stopped and every order since I have received damaged cans. This risks a broken seal on the dog food which could be harmful to feed my pet.

My mini aussie has to be on food that is gentle to her stomach or she gets diarrhea. I feed her the kibble of this gastrointestinal biome prescription daily, and got her a case of the can on sale, since normally it is too expensive. I appreciate the dog not having accidents overnight, and solid normal looking stools when she eats this product. She loves the taste too, it smells good.

My dog has a sensitive digestive system since she was a very young pup. After a year of trying to find a food she could tolerate. I thought she was allergic to chicken. Eventually her vet recommended this food. I also give her the dry. Since she has been on this food she has never had soft stools. It is like a miracle. Very pleased.

Great for my Dogs System

Finally, a product that our dog does well with. She has responded well to this product (poop, seems healthy). We are glad we can order from Chewy and have it directly

Finally, a product that our dog does well with. She has responded well to this product (poop, seems healthy). We are glad we can order from Chewy and have it directly shipped to our home. We appreciate that very much. Now we know that our Vet approves a couple of other products needed (same items and cost less) we highly recommend Chewy's!! Thanks for having met all of our dogs' needs.
