About Hill's Prescription Diet GI Biome Food for Dogs

Hill’s GI Biome Diet

Hill’s Prescription Diet Gastrointestinal Biome dog food takes a different approach to digestive care. Each formula uses a specific blend of active fibers, known as ActivBiome+, to help your dog’s stomach break down food more efficiently and promote healthier stools and regularity. It also contains Hill’s S+OX Shield ingredients, formulated to promote urinary health.

Healthy Stool in A Jiffy

Hill’s Gastrointestinal Biome promotes stool regularity in as little as 24 hours. Its ActivBiome+ Technology, an exclusive blend of prebiotics, whole grain oats and pumpkin, works with your dog’s unique gut flora to foster balance and better stools.

Activate the Gut Microbiome

When it comes to canine digestive health, the balance between good and bad bacteria is key. Promoting the growth of good bacteria helps keep problematic bacteria in check and supports ongoing digestive well-being.

Know the Signs of Digestive Issues

If you notice vomiting, diarrhea or soft stools, straining, stomach gurgling, flatulence, appetite changes, lethargy or depression in your dog, it may be from digestive trouble. See your vet for more insight and see if changing foods can help.

Risk Factors

Many things can trigger digestive issues in your pup, including food sensitivities, inflammation and bacterial, viral or parasite infections. Your vet can help determine what’s causing the trouble and figure out how diet can play a role.

Veterinarian Recommended

Vets know what’s best for their furry patients, so knowing that they place their trust in Hill’s can give you peace of mind.

Does this come in dry food

Do you have any info about the sodium content ? Since our dog has been on this food, she gets up during the night to drink lots of water.
Answer by ChewyApr 03, 2021
This formula has 0.35% sodium on a Dry Matter basis.

What is the shelf life once opened? Want to use this as a topper on her prescription dry food.
Answer by ChewyDec 29, 2020
After opening, canned products should be covered and stored in a refrigerator at 40 to 45 degrees Fahrenheit. In general, refrigerated canned foods should be used within five to seven days after opening. Canned products with high amounts of rice often have separation of water from the other canned product (free water will be seen at the bottom or around the side of the can) within a few days. This separation of water is called syneresis and does not change the nutritional characteristics of the food, but will affect food texture and possibly palatability. Since freezing dramatically changes the texture of canned products and adversely affects palatability, freezing canned pet food is not recommended either before or after opening.

My dog doesn't always finish a can in one day. How long does this stay fresh covered in the fridge?
Answer by ChewyAug 16, 2021
Ideally, after opening, any leftovers should be stored in the refrigerator and should be consumed within 3-5 days.

Senior Dog Approval

Our Havanese is 15 years old now and she began having digestion/pooping problems where her stools were most often diarrhea instead. I changed foods/treats but once she was put on this and the Hills Gastrointestinal Biome dry food - she's back to her old self! And she loves it!!

She can't make up her mind

I liked this food because it does help with her intestinal problem, but she doesn't always want to eat it. I mix it with another brand of kibbles that also is for intestinal issues. A can last me about 4 days since I mix it. (She only weighs 10 pounds) Sometimes she will eat and other times she turns her nose up to it. I usually end up throwing some away because of her fussiness. It would be nice if it also came in smaller cans. At least I wouldn't be throwing as much away.

Happy Belly!!

Takes care of stomach distress quick. I also use the dry formula and then the can as a topper to the dry. Diarrhea is gone and everyone is happy about that! Highly recommend ordering from Chewy, it will save you money, and the service superior!

Changed Food Formula

Warning they changed the formulation - my dog used to Love the previous formula - will not touch it now. I called the company - some human made a formula change but I can guarantee they did not ask the dogs how the dog food tastes. It is a different color and texture too.

Hills Biome Wet

My dog and I had been waiting for this food to become available for months due to manufacturing issue. Once received by Chewy, my dog is eating it without enticement and it promotes normal bowel movements for him. I no longer am up during the night running outside in cold windy weather. Thank you Hills & Chewy for getting Biome wet to us!!

Turn around

The hills dog food has had a tremendous impact on our 10 year old sheltie. We thought we were going to loose him. He now acts like a 2>3 year old puppy. Forever grateful for the turn around.

Yummy stuff

This product can be hard to find. Chewy had me on a waiting list and didn't let me down. My dog has IBS so this food she can tolerate. It smells good enough to eat!. This is the only canned food my dog will eat.

Bad stomach

I purchase the Dry Food with the exact same name, but when I give this wet food to my dog, he pukes it up. I am not sure what it is but I have two cases and I can not give him this wet food. The dry food is good, but I mix chicken in with it and he is fine. So, if your pooch pukes it could be this wet food. I still gave it 5 stars because it is a very good product.
