Vet Recommended

Veterinarians and pet experts use and recommend the traditional K&H bed line as well as their heated line of bed products.

Therapeutic Relief

Questions & Answers

26 Customer Questions

Does it turn off by itself? Is it on a timer or will it stay on through the night?

Answer by ChewyJun 12, 2023
There is not an off/on switch. The pad is always on when plugged in. MET Safety Laboratories suggests unplugging the bed if you leave your home on an extended vacation, as they do with any electrical appliance. Otherwise, it is designed for 24/7 operation and you can leave it plugged in all day. This item has been certified by MET labs to adhere to strict electrical safety standards.

Can an extension cord be used with the pad?

Answer by ChewyAug 28, 2024
MET requires that all manufacturers put the extension cord statement “Do not use with extension cord” on every item that is MET listed by UL 499 standards. This is because they cannot test every extension cord on the market in conjunction with our products for safety. Also, MET suggests that an extension cord is not recommended as a permanent fixture and should only be a temporary solution when using any electrical product.

How heavy would a cat need to be to activate the Giant size pad to warm to 102 degrees?

Answer by ChewyJan 09, 2018
There is no weight requirement for the warmer to activate. The surface temperature depends on how much padding is on the pet bed. If there is a lot of padding, it will be cooler. If the padding is thinner, the surface will be warmer.

Can the pad be used in a dog kennel inside an unheated garage?

Answer by ChewyDec 07, 2018
It's not recommended to place pad in confined area where the pet does not have the ability to remove themselves from the pad. Always allow your pet enough space to be able choose if they want to rest on the pad or off the pad.

Perfect little landing pad for our kitty when we decide to keep the heat down (usually 65-68). We sleep better in the cold but I sleep better knowing she’s warm. The instructions say to keep a layer between the heating pad and the animal but she just bats it off and lays down directly. Because it doesn’t get over the normal cats body temp (100-102 degrees) I leave her to it. And she removes herself easily if she gets too hot. Love this addition to her comfort.

I have a 12-year old lab who's slowing down this winter. Our vet recommended a heating pad for her joints. What a great idea. I'm so beyond pleased with this product. I place the pad under a blanket on my dog's bed, and wherever it is on the bed, she moves to curl up on it. I can tell it's helping her because of how she sprawls out over the bed, instead of curling up tight. She's even slept on her back a few times this week! It's also helped me turn the heat down lower at night, because I know she'll be cosy and warm. I find the temperature is fine (as she does she, based on her use of it), contrary to other reviewers. And I really like that the heat decreases when she isn't putting pressure directly on it. We'll see how long it lasts, but for right now, I couldn't be happier!

My pet isn’t thrilled with it. I’ve had one of these before that was square, but this is long and relatively narrow. It does not heat as quickly as the old one, and the heat doesn’t really penetrate through the thin blanket I have over it. I will likely donate it to the shelter, as my pet won’t go in the bed that I placed it in for them. K&H usually has great products but this one isn’t so great in terms of design and function.

The K&H pet bed warmer suits my need to keep an aging beagle mix dog resting comfortably this winter. More impressive is Chewy’s donation-based return policy. I originally ordered a chicken heat mat, but once I received it realized it wasn’t going to work for my application. Chewy customer service was very understanding, and instead of having me return the heater, urged me to donate it, which I have done. Classy touch, Chewy!

I have had a bigger one for many years. I had it on our cat tree for my Covid kittens. When they grew up and now weigh 16 & 17 I had to get the second tree. This year I realized they were still trying to fit on the tree with the heater, and didn’t really fit. That is when I started looking for an additional heater. The second tree wants big, so when I saw you had the small one, I ordered it right away.

This is a nice product if you don't need a temp set, off/on switch, a longer cord, or an included cloth cover. Unfortunately, we realized after the fact that we needed an off/on switch, temp controls, and a longer/retactable cord. My dog loves it, no mistaking that, but we need something more specific. Thanks K & H Pet Products and Chewy for having this available, but please consider offering more options.

I have a smaller size dog bed warmer from years ago that came with padding and a soft cover. This was much larger and gets much warmer - maybe a touch too warm and without the cover in need to put several blankets on top of it to make it the right temp. I still use the old one in his crate so he doesn’t overheat.

The description says "The Pet Bed Warmer provides a subtle heat and reaches a maximum temperature of 102F..." I put an accurate food thermometer in the bed, and it was 121F. Note they say "The Pet Bed Warmer..." not "the surface of the pet bed", so this has nothing to do with the amount of bedding. I don't want it turned on under a pet bed if they are unable to keep the temperature at the levels advertised.

I absolutely love the medium and large warming pads, but the small one is not large enough. I would recommend the medium and large warming pad, but not the small one. If it were square instead of rectangular, it would be more useful.
