FAQ
What is the difference between a human heating pad and a Pet Bed Warmer?
The Pet Bed Warmer provides a subtle heat and reaches a maximum temperature of 102°F, which is the natural body temperature of dogs and cats. A regular human heating pad will be much too warm and could damage a pet's skin and cause him/her to be afraid of the heat source.
Does the Pet Bed Warmer need to be placed inside a pet bed?
Yes, the Pet Bed Warmer should always be placed inside a pet bed. It should never be used by itself.
How much bedding should be between the Pet Bed Warmer and a pet's body?
There should be at least 1/2 inch of padding between the warmer and a pet's body.
What temperature will a bed reach with the Pet Bed Warmer inside?
The surface of the bed that contains the Pet Bed Warmer will be about 15°F above ambient air temperature until the pet lies on the bed. Then it will warm to about 102°F. The surface temperature depends on how much padding is on the pet bed. If there is a lot of padding, it will be cooler. If the padding is thinner, the surface will be warmer.
Could I use the Pet Bed Warmer outdoors if it's covered and out of the snow?
While our Pet Bed Warmer is an excellent product, it is not designed to output enough heat for the cold outdoor temperatures of winter. Rather, it is designed to elevate the temperature of a pet’s bed that is already around room temperature.
Does it matter which side of the Pet Bed Warmer faces up?
For this particular product, it does not matter which side faces up.
Are the bed warmers waterproof?
The Pet Bed Warmer is water-resistant. It can be wiped clean with a damp cloth.
How long is the cord?
The cord is 5.5 feet long.
Is this warmer pressure sensitive?
The warmer is not pressure sensitive. All K&H heated beds and pads feature dual thermostats and are designed to warm to your pet's normal body temperature when he/she lies on the pad. This is a function of the insulation provided by a pet’s body, not the weight of the pet.K&H beds and pads will emit heat anytime they are plugged in so your pet can sense that heat and be drawn to the bed or pad for warmth and comfort. When your pet is not on the pad, the heat will dissipate into the air and the surface temperature will vary according to the ambient air temperature.
Can I use an extension cord with this product?
MET requires that all manufacturers put the extension cord statement “Do not use with extension cord” on every item that is MET listed by UL 499 standards. This is because they cannot test every extension cord on the market in conjunction with our products for safety. Also, MET suggests that an extension cord is not recommended as a permanent fixture and should only be a temporary solution when using any electrical product.
How long can a warmer be plugged in?
MET Safety Laboratories suggests unplugging the warmer if you leave your home on an extended vacation, as they do with any electrical appliance. Otherwise, it is designed for 24/7 operation and you can leave it plugged in all day. This item has been certified by MET labs to adhere to strict electrical safety standards.
Is there an off/on switch?
There is not an off/on switch. The warmer is always on when plugged in.

My dog bed does not have a zippered compartment. Can this be placed on the floor under the bed and still be effective? Thx
Answer by • Oct 29, 2017
This bed warmer must be placed inside your dog's bed to work effectively and distribute the heat properly.
What sizes are the beds in inches?
Answer by • Jul 27, 2017
The Small is 8.5 x 8.5 inches, 4 watts. The Medium is 5.5 x 20 inches, 6 watts. The Large is 11 x 23 inches, 13 watts. The Giant is 15.5 x 26 inches, 22 watts.
I put this under a blanket in my cat's window bed. In the winter, he is less likely to use the bed due to the cold from outside, but with this heater he is more willing to use it. He looks very cozy and falls asleep there for hours. I am grateful because this gives him more stimulation as he can watch the birds and squirrels outside year-round. The cons are that it is on all the time (the outside version only turns on when a cat lays on it) and that it has a really bad chemical smell that has yet to go away (it is less noticeable with a blanket on top). Overall, I recommend this bed warmer.

Cat warmer
These work great I have several strays that come out of the woods up to the barn so we put little cat beds with these in the barn and they use them regularly! I also have a small cat that likes to be out on the covered deck during the day and even when the windchill was below zero she was in the little house with the warmer and it was perfect. Yes they have been pee peed on but I do keep them in covers so they don't scratch them and they hold up very well.

K & H Heating pad works great!
*Exceptionally satisfied customer here!* I have 5 of these large K & H heating pads in my Central Coast California uninsulated garage for my indoor/outdoor cats (that we are sadly unable to allow in our home because of excessive marking issues that we've been unable to correct). I've been using these heating pads during the winter months for our cats and they love them! I have multiple large beds at various levels and hidey spots throughout the garage and I always have multiple layers of clean fleece throws over the tops of these heating pads to make sure that it's not too hot. I find that these mats do get a bit toasty but the multiple layers of fleece blankets gives me peace of mind that it isn't uncomfortable. I make sure to scrunch up the top fleece throw to give them something to snuggle into also. The cats all gravitate to these beds and love the heat! I do have them set on auto timers so during the warmest part of the day they switch off. I have had some of these for probably 3 years and haven't had a single one fail or have any problems with. In the summer months I take care to role these heating pads up individually and store safely away where they won't get creased or damaged in any way and bring them out again when it starts to get chilly. Plug them in to check for any problems and smooth them out before putting them back out for all the cats. (I would never put this in a cage / kennel situation where an animal couldn't get off of a heating mat.)

Cat heating pad
This heating pad is interesting. It only gets to about 100F, so you cant tell if its working unless its really cold. My barn cat loves it though. Warm enough to keep him from feezing, but not so hot that it scares him.

Great product, bought at least 3
Highly recommend K&H heating pads and beds. Bought the smaller one to replace the bed one. Cat peed in it; could not get the smell out. It was not marketed as a replacement but fits perfectly in there. Also purchased the medium one for the cat hammock. Your pet and you will not be disappointed!

Great while it lasted!
Great product, I didn’t feel it got too hot with the proper barriers between the pad and pupper. Our dog loved it and got excited to go to bed in her crate. We stored it after last winter in a dry, safe place carefully and just brought it out of storage for this season- unfortunately it will no longer work. Chewy customer service was amazing in helping us with this purchase from almost a year ago, but I can’t give the product high rating since it had such a short life. Otherwise our dog loved it!

all my cats love them
I have several rescue kitties, Many handicapped or elderly babies. I have at least 10 pads around the house and they are always in use. I have only had 1 pad go bad after a short time, most of them are several years old and still going strong
