Will this be difficult for an English bulldog to drink out of the bowl part of they don’t want to drink from the spout? My Frenchie prefers the spout water but my English bulldog likes to drink from the bowl of water fountains.

Answer by MaryFeb 29, 2024
Your bulldog might prefer a fountain that has a larger bowl to drink from. There are fountains with spout and larger bowls.

Does this have an automatic shut off in case the water becomes low so the motor doesn't burn up in the pump? If it doesn't, can the pump burn up?

Answer by ChewyJul 24, 2018
A minimum level of water must be maintained in the fountain in order to keep the pump running properly. The pump will not shut itself off if the water level gets too low. If the pump were to begin to overheat due to a situation like this, though, it will shut itself off. This safety shut-off will typically render the pump inoperable and in need of replacement.

What is the advantage of the stainless steel over the plastic one??

Answer by ChewyJan 25, 2018
The advantage is the stainless steel fountain stays cleaner longer and doesn't attract bacteria as quick.

How long can you leave it running?

Answer by ChewyMay 14, 2018
This fountain is electric powered so the length of use depends on how long it is plugged in for.

My previous cat had this fountain, though his was plastic. It was his most favorite thing, and now my new baby really likes this one. I like it too, easy to see the water level, drinking from a bowl rather than off a surface (like shallow fountains), steel to help avoid bacterial issues, multiple spigot options, etc. The plastic clips that others have complained about aren't overly difficult; you just have to be careful when removing them.

Our pets LOVE their drinking fountain, but I have found it to be a bit of a pain. First of all, the pump just died shy of the 1 year and 2 month mark. Well done warranty team! After a few days of use, the fountain becomes clogged with sediment from the pets mouths and paws. Yes, our one cat drinks with her paw. I always put it in the dish washer at the beginning of the month (not the filter) and I do several spot cleaning sessions and rinses after that, but the water flow slows to a trickle by the end of the each month. The plastic parts become slimy as does the filter. I’m not sure if we can buy a new pump for this. I quickly searched Chewy before writing this review, but I didn’t find one yet.

I noticed mildew developing on the sponge and fountain mechanism. When I tried to remove the plastic brackets that holds the cord in place so I could clean it, the brackets snapped in half. I threw it all away since I really don’t want something for my pets that’s going to create a sanitation issue that can’t be easily remedied.

Let me start off by saying that this has nothing to do with Chewy (which they’re an amazing company and have been a customer since 2014) This is a rant specifically for Drinkwell. My original Drinkwell that I bought 10-12 years ago had finally died in 2024. It was a great fountain! Sturdy, relatively easy to clean, and the water pump pumped strong and never clogged! When it died and for good in early 2024, I knew I wanted another Drinkwell stainless steel. However, that was a big mistake. I’ve had this new one a year now and it is truly a pain in the you know what. It clogs constantly. Good luck using any spout ring but the 1 or 2 flow option. It doesn’t flow water at all. Some times it will flow good for a day then quit. The black plastic “legs” have cracked and broken. The water pump died and I bought a replacement which was worse than the original; it’s small and the rubber feet do not suction to the stainless steel. For $80, I expected the quality that they originally were for $50. Now I’m looking for a new fountain after a year. Drinkwell is not what they use to be. Save your money!

We picked this fountain because our biggest cat (16 lbs...) loves to destroy other fountains. He'll paw or chew around to find a piece he can take off - literally pulled the whole plastic top off of one fountain - or just pull the thing over. He can check his teeth on this one all he wants, theres nothing he can take apart and it's too heavy to knock down! All three of our cats used the fountain within a day of getting it running. As long as it holds up well, I can easily say this was worth it.

I was so hopeful for this fountain, but sadly, it does not perform very well. The clamps break super easy, I had to buy replacement, today one broke when trying to clean it .. the other 2, i did not took out, coz I felt afraid it will break again, im traveling I don't need that broken.. the stainless steel, doesn't feel like its really stainless steel, and it gets so dirty so easily, I never had a problem with my other fountain from Cat it, we wanted to give our kitties good quality, but with all the plastic it has, is not the quality I wanted. I feel bad for buying this to my kitties. I will probably go and buy a different one today. Pet safe, more like im going to give your pet a disease with low quality plastic, and "steel" very disappointed.

This is my second fountain from Drinkwell 360. The first was plastic and still works but the parts were getting brittle and breaking off on the little pieces. Instead of using a filter and foam, I just wash the fountain more often to get the biofilm off and fill with fresh water. My pets love it. I wish this metal model had a different clip system. The three clips are hard for me to snap into place. I slip a table knife under them to snap them off and I hope I don't break them prematurely.

I purchased this item just one month over a year ago. Two of The black “arms” that holds the parts together broke since I cleaned it last. I didn’t realize they were broken until I was trying to put it together again. I thought they were just off. I love the fountain, but it is super pricey not to last longer than a year! Unfortunately, chewy.com was unable to replace the black stabilizers for me. Save your money! Just get some cheap porcelain bowls that last forever unless you drop and break them. Or get small stainless steel that does last forever! Nothing to break! Your water will be just as fresh because you will have to provide daily!

We had an old plastic water fountain that my cat liked but was difficult to keep clean, got gunky fast, and burned out pumps pretty quickly. Finally I scrapped it. Went through three that said cat turned his nose up at. He would only drink from the kitchen sink. **so much hair everywhere in the sink** Gak. Found this one and he actually uses it. Amazing! The flow is enough to attract him but not enough to be so noisy you have yell over it like one of the others we tried. We like that the flow is adjustable too - it can be turned down when you want even less noise or up if you are trying to attract said picky cat.

I bought this to replace my previous Drinkwell360 that finally gave up the ghost. The plastic pieces gave out and could not be replaced. Had the previous fountain 7 years. The new one seems sturdier and is much easier to clean. Two of my three cats took right to it. My third took a day or so to get over it. It scared him. He is drinking out of it now and all is good. The fountain looks nice too.
