About Royal Canin Kidney Health for Cats

Concerned about Your Cat’s Kidney Health?

The healthy functioning of your cat’s kidneys is essential to them living a healthy life. Their kidneys serve as a filtering system that helps remove toxins and waste from blood. You should always work with your veterinarian to monitor your cat’s kidney health.

Support Your Cat’s Quality of Life Through Kidney Health Challenges

Feed a Specific Renal Diet

Your veterinarian can recommend the right diet to support your cat’s kidney function.

Encourage Drinking Water

Make sure that your cat always has fresh and clean water available. Offering them moist food can also support hydration.

Stimulate Your Cat’s Appetite

Offer your cat a nutritional option with different taste, smell, and texture to help ensure food intake, especially for pets with a poor appetite.

How Nutrition Can Help

Your veterinarian may recommend a formula that includes:

Digestive Support

A combination of highly digestible proteins, balanced fibers, prebiotics and EPA + DHA to support digestive health.

Antioxidant Complex

Enriched with a blend of antioxidants to promote tissue and cellular health.

Kidney Support

Modified phosphorous and protein to support kidney function.

Adapted Energy

Adapted energy content to reduce meal volume and help compensate for a decreased appetite.

Add Variety and Remember to Set Autoship

Offering a range of aromas and textures can help ensure palatability and adequate food intake. Also, remember to set Autoship to make sure that your cat always has their veterinarian’s recommended nutrition.

I have one cat who will be eating this just to supplement to her RC canned food. How long will the dry food stay fresh once opened and what is the best way to store it if it's used slowly?

Answer by ChewyJun 01, 2021
An unopened bag of food will last until the expiration date stamped on the bag. Ideally, most dry food and treats should be consumed within 6-8 weeks of opening the bag. Exposure to air, light, hot temperatures and humidity speeds up the rate at which foods degrade. To limit these effects, keep dry foods in their original packaging and store in a cool, dry location.

After my cats hospitalization there have been many changes including switching to this food which we paced and everting. We’ve tried adding forti flora and even got Flagyl from the vet for the diarrhea it’s causing and it just hasn’t gone away. I don’t know what to do because the food was so expensive.

Our cat is 17 and recently had some concerning lab values so our vet recommended this Royal Canin dry food to help him. I think he has done well on it plus he really loves it (and he's a very picky eater, like so many cats are). I think Royal Canin offers high quality cat food so I feel good about giving it to him. Hopefully, it will keep him going for a few more years! Thank you for offering this cat food, Chewy.

My senior girl has early-ish stage kidney disease, and trying to find vet diets that she'll eat has been a challenge. I had actually tried this one, initially, and she just didn't seem to like it.....I moved on to other products, but none of them seemed to work..... I gave this a try again, a couple orders ago, and she has been eating it fairly well! I'll keep my fingers crossed that she'll continue to do so....but at the moment, even though I can see it's not her favorite....she IS eating it. She's even started eating a different brand wet food for renal disease that she wouldn't even touch before and now seems to like....but that's for another review.... :-) I would like to add that Chewy has been great while I try to get something that she'll eat consistently.

I’m caring for a friend’s 17 year old formerly outdoor cat who’s got some chronic illnesses including decline in kidney function. This sweet old kitty was very skinny and not doing great but with the addition of Royal Canin Renal Support according to the vet he’s doing “substantially better.” He’s such a sweet boy and I’m hoping to add some good years to his life. Lucky has gained a pound in weight already, labs look good, and he loves this dry food as a supplement yo canned food.

My kitties LOVE it!

My vet recommended this food for my older girls and they like it better than any other dry food they’ve had. Chewy is wonderful to work with and I am 100% happy

$60 bag of prescription food - Package treated poorly on transit

6.6 lb bag had a hole in it and kibble had spilled out into the box it came in, with kibble leaking out the top and side of the box. Not exactly what I would expect

6.6 lb bag had a hole in it and kibble had spilled out into the box it came in, with kibble leaking out the top and side of the box. Not exactly what I would expect for a $127 shipment! Now will need to find a new storage container for the bag.

My Jada is 20 years old and remarkably healthy for her age except for some renal issues. She even has all her teeth! The vet changed her prescription diet to Renal Support since she was slowly losing weight. At her last visit, she gained a half lb. So we are all very pleased with the food.

Mariah was very disinterested in her Hill's K/D kibble so i wanted to try Royal Canin...since there were several options, i chose the one with triangular shapes as she used to love her Blue Buffalo food for hairballs that was of that shape. I couldn't believe, and still can't believe, how she willingly and eagerly eats this kibble. the size of the kibble is smaller than what she had before and beyond that, i don't know what it is that so inspires her to eat as it is a labor of love to get her to eat any of her wet food , either ANY of the Royal Canin or Hill's k/d although she seems fine about the T and D but still wants to lick off the gravy...and leave the rest(and she ALWAYS loved wet food).
