About Royal Canin Kidney Health for Cats

Concerned about Your Cat’s Kidney Health?

The healthy functioning of your cat’s kidneys is essential to them living a healthy life. Their kidneys serve as a filtering system that helps remove toxins and waste from blood. You should always work with your veterinarian to monitor your cat’s kidney health.

Support Your Cat’s Quality of Life Through Kidney Health Challenges

Feed a Specific Renal Diet

Your veterinarian can recommend the right diet to support your cat’s kidney function.

Encourage Drinking Water

Make sure that your cat always has fresh and clean water available. Offering them moist food can also support hydration.

Stimulate Your Cat’s Appetite

Offer your cat a nutritional option with different taste, smell, and texture to help ensure food intake, especially for pets with a poor appetite.

How Nutrition Can Help

Your veterinarian may recommend a formula that includes:

Digestive Support

A combination of highly digestible proteins, balanced fibers, prebiotics and EPA + DHA to support digestive health.

Antioxidant Complex

Enriched with a blend of antioxidants to promote tissue and cellular health.

Kidney Support

Modified phosphorous and protein to support kidney function.

Adapted Energy

Adapted energy content to reduce meal volume and help compensate for a decreased appetite.

what is the difference between royal canin vet diet renal support "A" and "S" dry cat food?
Answer by ChewyMar 17, 2018
The A is for aromatic, the S is for savory and the F is for flavorful. Each will have the same medical properties however they will be formulated a little differently to appeal to various cat preferences.

what is the protein, phosphorus, sodium, and carbohydrates levels on a dry matter basis?
Answer by ChewyJan 09, 2020
This variety contains approximately 38.8% Carbohydrate content on an as-fed basis (42.1% on a dry matter basis), 0.41% Sodium content on an as-fed basis (0.44% on a dry matter basis), 0.55% Phosphorus content on an as-fed basis (0.59% on a dry matter basis) and 22.5-26.5% Protein content on an as-fed basis (24.4-28.8% on a dry matter basis).

How big are the kibble? My cat only likes big pieces.
Answer by ChewyNov 27, 2017
The kibble does vary in size due to baking the food. A good example of this is when baking cookies, the same recipe is used and the process is the same, but some batches may be fluffier and some may be denser. Size variation can be seen on occasion, but will not affect the nutritional value of the diet.

Does this food contain any Omega-6 Fatty Acids?
Answer by ChewyJan 01, 2023
This food does not contain omega-6 fatty acids.

Chewy notified me as promised

Royal Canin stopped production of the only food my cat would eat enough of to hold hid weight which is so important when he has hypertension, thyroid issues and kidney failure. I couldn't find this food anywhere and Chewy was the only company that said they could notify me when they had the food back in stock and they did. This is how you create a loyal customer base. Thank you Chewy!

Great Experience!

OK. First, chewy was out of stock when I first needed it but, in true chewy fashion, they notified me when the item was available without my having to constantly go online and look. Second, Item arrived in perfect shape with protective packaging. Third (and this tops the cake!), my cat actually likes it! Thank you, chewy, for another 5-star experience!

Great for my girls

One of my 10 year old cats was recently diagnosed with kidney issues and the vet gave a prescription for this food. My girls have had a history of sensitive stomachs and throwing up foods so I was scared to switch again but fortunately they both love this food - both wet and dry - and haven't had any issues at all with their stomach sensitivity.

So far, is all right

We've been struggling to get a picky cat to eat, and this is being received better than the previous brand, so we're hopeful. I like that we can get different flavors and shapes of kibble, too.

Royal Canin Renal Dry Cat Food

It's almost been a year since my indoor cat of 14 years Kimba was put on her Renal Support diet. For a couple weeks She was always sleeping and it appeared she was laboring when walking. Was not interested in her toys or jumping into her cat tree. After about a month on this diet, she started to play again and dart across the house and jump into her tree. She started on the F Support dry food diet. She will not eat wet cat food, but has always been a water lover. Her vet says that is a good thing. The second time I bought her the A Support as I was unaware of the different recipes. She would not eat it. After I noticed my error, I returned it for the F and she was happy. Several months ago, there was a delay on the delivery because of a shortage of the F, and she was almost out. I had to run to a local pet store where all they had was A & S Support. I gambled and tried the S, because she would have ran out by the scheduled date of delivery. She ate the S Support and when the F Support came, she didn't want any part of it. My cousin has a male cat about the same age, and on the same diet. I gave her the F Support for him and he was ok with it because he isn't a finicky eater like Kimba is. All is well, and she has a clean bill of health after her senior panel in Sept. She had a minor urinary tract infection that cleared up in less than a week after treatment. So I highly recommend Royal Canin for senior cats. It has given her a much better quality of life.

A prescription diet my cat likes

I tried a different brand and even a different formula from Royal Canin but my cat was not interested. She definitely likes this brand and formula and even my other cat, who does not need a renal diet, loves this so both cats get it.
