Royal Canin Urinary SO Moderate Calorie is a veterinary-exclusive wet cat food developed to nutritionally support your adult cat’s urinary tract and bladder health. This formula promotes a urinary environment unfavorable to the formation of both struvite and calcium oxalate crystals. It increases the amount of urine your cat produces to help dilute excess minerals that can cause crystals and stones. Moderate calorie content helps them maintain a healthy weight. Relative Super Saturation (RSS) methodology is used to help lower ion concentration in urine, which contributes to stone formation. Lower urinary tract issues may be a recurring concern for some cats. Talk to your veterinarian about keeping your cat on this urinary cat food for long-term urinary support.

Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.
Transition Day | Current Diet | New Diet |
---|---|---|
Days 1-2 | 75% | 25% |
Days 3-4 | 50% | 50% |
Days 5-6 | 25% | 75% |
Day 7 | 0% | 100% |

I wish I would have read the reviews on this food before purchasing. I have had amazing luck with other Royal Canin vet products. In fact I have a cat on gastrointestinal vet food and he loves it. I wanted to switch my cat to this in the hopes he would eat more of the soft food as he will only eat a little of other brands. I opened the can and knew by the look of it that it didn't look like other Royal Canin foods I had purchased before. And my cat confirmed it was not good when he turned he nose up and walked away. This was for breakfast and he always eats the soft food at breakfast. I put the other brand out and he ate it. I will have to keep him on the other brand until Royal Canin makes a change.
I have 3 furry babies. 2 dogs, 1 cat. My cat has urinary problems, and almost died. Thanks to chewy I can order his hard food, and soft food, and don't have to drive all over looking for this special order. Chewy is dependable on deliver orders. I haven't order a toy for my dogs that they didn't love. Thank you Chewy.
Whew! He likes it. I puree it in the mini food processor. I puree it alone or with half a can of the loaf in sauce can of this same flavor. If i left it just chunks in gravy he'd eat basically just gravy. This is to treat his struvite crystals. Wish it came in fish flavor.
I have always received my cats prescription cat food, "Royal Canin Urinary SO" very quickly after ordering. It had been difficult to find in pet food stores. Thankfully ordering from Chewy I don't have that problem anymore.
Oddly enough, my cat, Rudy, prefers this moderate calorie version to the original one. In fact, after several years of eating the original recipe, he recently turned it down (it was from a new shipment so the recipe could have been modified). So I am truly relieved that he will eat the moderate calorie version! It is tough to get Rudy’s diet just right due to his urinary issues without boring him to pieces, but I am nevertheless happy to have this moderate calorie meat morsels in gravy as part of his limited diet choices.
I have had 2 shipments now of this brand. And something has changed. It's mostly just liquid with the meat floating in it. It never used to be like this and my cat doesn't like it either, anymore.
Finally, a new formula! After a ridiculous price increase last year (almost doubling the cost of a case) the formula has been "normalized". For too long the food has been small morsels in a can brimming with a liquid substance which has left a slick of yellow oil on the lid. I am lucky in that my cats have continued to eat it regardless of how it looks to me. The formula also seems to have changed in that each of my cats has lost a couple of pounds over the last year, a desired sub-effect but to the extent that my vet has recommended adding a 3rd daily meal to their diet. The only reason that I continue to use Royal Canin is that the similar formula in a competitor's food only comes in larger cans and I prefer not to keep a can around long enough for them to get through it. I can only give my cats a teaspoon at each meal as they are guzzlers and will barf if fed more than that. Thanks to Chewy however for making this available.
My cat was diagnosed with a urinary track disease. And he hates all the food that has been designed for kitties with this disease. But he loves this food! Thank God.
Where is the gravy? The last two shipments of morsels did not contain "gravy". They had a horrible oily substance that our cat wouldn't eat. What happened. Quality control issues? where is this product made? I am so disappointed.
My 10 yr old cat was never fussy about food. -- Never left a wet or dry food dish untouched until this Royal Canin Moderate Calorie Urinary SO wet food. One sniff and she would walk away and sit and glare at me across the room with accusing eyes ! (Wish it were possible to buy less than 24 cans of new prescription foods !)
