My cat likes all kinds of ham. He purrs and rubs up against me whenever I'm eating a ham sandwich, ham steak or baked ham. He turns his nose up at every other canned cat food that I've tried giving him, even the expensive stuff, so I figured I'd try this one. The first 1/2 can that I gave him (he can't eat more than 1/2 can), he ate right down. He's very picky, as most cats are. He'll only eat Iams ProActive Health Healthy Adult Original with Chicken Dry Cat Food, no other flavors, no other brands. So there's always a bowl of kibble on the floor for him but he'll always eat this ham canned food when I give it to him. It's like giving him a treat.
My cat jynx loved this unfortunately he passed away and the new cats do not like it and I still have 10 cans left
When I opened the first can, I thought the kitties would go crazy for it. Tiny chunks of ham and the can was full. I was shocked when they both walked away. They only nibbled on it afterward, so I figured this was a failure. However, it was a large case of food, and they must refuse at least 3 cans for me to head it off for donation. I gave them their next can 4 days after the first. This time they both ate about half their plates before walking away, then finished half of that later. I decided it would be a fill-in rather than in the regular rotation. It had been over a week when hubby found the tucked away food and gave it to them for their 5 am feeding (they trained him well.) When I got up a short time afterward, I was surprised to see that they had cleaned their plates. Now they like it - at least when really hungry, and I have added it into their food rotation. Now they get it as either their 5 am feeding or the last one of the day, but not as often as the other varieties they get.
I bought this brand on another Chewy customer's recommendation on a different product I was also reviewing. I bought this flavor because I wish I could get 2 of my cats off of frozen raw food, and pork is their favorite flavor of that. No dice! Oh, well! That's cats! My other cats think this is pretty good, not great, so I'm feeding the case off to them. It really looks like human food, just ham bits in water. My only reservation about it is that it is made in Italy and does not meet the AAFO standards, so you can't feed just these Almo Nature Products. These products do caution you on the label that the product is intended for intermittent or supplemental feeding only.
I was browsing the Almo section on the site and I was delighted to see a couple new items! My cats normally love Almo brand but for whatever reason this new ham and parmesan flavor was not to their liking. Some of my cats eat diced ham when I make salads at home so I was a little confused when they wouldn't eat this. I tasted a little myself and my gosh it was salty so I get it now. I don't know why cats need parmesan cheese. I don't think they like that type of cheese. I'm going to try the ham/turkey combo one to see if that is any better
The typical seafood and chicken flavors seem to still be the most preferred, but for a new flavor (Ham & Parmesan), I was surprised my cat returned to the bowl several times for another bite or two. This case of 24 cans should last awhile and I'm curious whether this ham flavor will end up as a favorite ..... or not. It smells fresh, and is very tender.
My cat loved this but it made her very thirsty. I also noticed this is not considered a complete daily meal only to be used as intermittent food. Only for these reasons I lowered the stars for this food.
