Good concept but has huge drawback
We purchased this for our cat, because the dogs kept stealing his food and we kept having to refill his bowl. I was able to tuck the Feeder in a corner out of the dogs' sight and reach. This worked well for about a week and around the same time, I started to notice ants in house. This morning at 5am, Remo (cat) was crying loudly and I said "clearly you don't understand the concept of a self feeder". When I checked the feeder, I found it was full of food and ANTS!! Ants were everywhere, around the bowl and a trail leading in from the door. Oh well, he's going to have to go back to battling the dogs.
Fine enough, but not really gravity?
Similarly to what many people say about a lot of gravity feeders, this feeder doesn’t really release food easily on its own. Basically, it only does so once the bowl is COMPLETELY empty, and even then, it only spits out a tiny bit of food. I got this as an interim solution for my cat while out of town until I can afford to upgrade to the electronic feeder, and the large bowl itself (that I filled by hand) was enough to last my cat a few days. I had some food in the container portion just as a back up, but it would only come in handy in the event that my cat ate the entire portion of food in the bowl area, which my cat is unlikely to do. For a dog or multiple pets, this *might* actually work. Otherwise, I noted that another reviewer managed to cut the food release opening to be a bit wider, and I agree that would be the best way to make it actually release food. I just don’t have the tools/skill to do so. Other than all that, it’s sturdy, and decent looking. The medium size is a good pairing to the 2.5 gallon Frisco waterer on Chewy.
Not great gravity feed.
I have bought several different styles of gravity feeder and all of them jam at the feed mouth when the bowl is empty. So I have to rake the food out when it's supposed to do it with gravity. I'm just going to buy a large feed bowl or have several when I want to travel for more than just a few days. The automatic water works beautifully but not the feeder.
The kitty bowl
I love it I'm so glad I got it for my kitty's all 4 r in love with it and I can save on food also they eat all the time I don't have to fill it up everyday once a week and it's great
Used to go on a mini vacation
I bought this to feed my 3 cats while I was out of town for almost 3 days. The only issues I had with it, is that the cat food seemed to of got stuck after the bowl part was all gone. So the cat food didn't drop down to fill the bowl back up. I recommend if you are able to keep an eye on it or if you leave town for only a couple days. I definitely don't recommend it for a long duration trip. I don't use it as an everyday feeder bc I don't want to cats overweight or gaining more than they have now. So this semi worked for what I needed at the time. I plan on looking into something that is more reliable if I choose to leave town again.
Works pretty well
It’s a little slow to refill the bowl so I propped it up in the back and it works much better.
Not perfect but
The issue I experienced was of course the food getting jammed and not pouring into the bowl. However my goofball of a dog figured out that if she hits it it comes out again. So she just bops it with her paw and problem solved. The food getting jammed could be a real problem tho so consider that before you purchase.
It actually works!
The gravity feeder I had before this one, for my cat, was a disaster. We went out of town for weekend and the thing clogged so no food dispensed. A returning pet owner's nightmare! This one works great. Opening for food was plenty wide and the slope steep enough to dispense by gravity. Just in case, I tried it before travel and now use all the time for kitty.
Love this item so very much
My animals both dog and cats love this feeder. Helps out so much since everyone works and we are un able to keep their dishes full. Just fill and they are feed for a week.
Bought this for my 15yr old daughters new kitten. Works perfectly for a forgetful teen. I only wish we got the bigger one that would hold more.
