Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.
Transition Day | Current Diet | New Diet |
---|---|---|
Days 1-2 | 75% | 25% |
Days 3-4 | 50% | 50% |
Days 5-6 | 25% | 75% |
Day 7 | 0% | 100% |
Why should I buy veterinary diets from Chewy?
We offer competitive prices and free shipping on orders over $49. Plus, you'll save more if you sign up for automatic refills with Autoship at Checkout. Chewy experts are available 24/7 to answer any questions you have.
How do I order veterinary diets?
- Search for the diet your veterinarian recommends and add it to your cart. You can purchase your veterinary diets along with any other items you need.
- At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
- Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.
I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?
Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We're here for you 24/7.

Good food, picky cat
By Xgecko on Jan 7, 2021
I have no doubt the food is good, but my cat did what cats do. She refused to eat this batch. I had obtained a few cans locally and she seemed to eat them but refused to eat this batch. So as always, your mileage may vary.

Loved It! She gobbled it!
By Izzy on Oct 17, 2020
My older cat, Izzy, absolutely gobbled it down. She is an older cat and had become a very finicky eater. However, when I gave her the k/d Kidney+Mobility Care she loved it.

Amazing for both kitty and I!
By Lorna on Aug 30, 2020
The results are amazing honestly. She's been a lot more active and playful since switching to the +mobility. She loves the taste and just keeps going back. Thank you for helping my baby

Cat loves it
By Disappointed on Jun 14, 2020
My nearly 15 year old Siamese loves this and since he is in the early stages of renal failure, it is good for him. I only wish they made it in the larger cans....this is expensive and not making us buy this small can would be nice. Are you listening Hills?

Know it isn't the foods fault but my cat refuses to eat.

Did not enjoy
By Barb on Jun 7, 2020 top1000Contributor
My 19year young Shiba said this was not good. First day she picked at it. After a week she would not even touch it. I wanted to help with her aging joints, this was not the one.

Expensive but effective
By Sandy on Jun 13, 2020
This helps a lot with mobility, and apparently kidney function. She eats more with the wet food. Gave her a health boost when she was ailing.

elder statesman not keen on this
By Lucypurrandjazz on Mar 25, 2020
thought he would enjoy a change of pace but have gone back to ordering the regular k/d kidney care vegetable with chicken... he is already on advanced dasuquin for cats as well as gabapentin and epakatin (sp?) as well as a mere droplet of salmon oil... for us the additional nine or ten dollars doesn t seem to be advantageous

My Milo loves this stew!
By vetj on May 8, 2020
From the first can, he just loved it and I was relieved! Milo is in the very early stages of kidney disease and its hard to change a cat's diet, but this has made it easier!
