How will you contact my vet?

Our Vet Diet team will personally contact your vet for approval. If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we’ll let you know immediately.

Yes! If you have a paper copy of your prescription, email a picture to vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat, or fax your prescription to 1-800-619-7973.

Can I use a prescription written by a veterinarian out of state?

Of course! We can accept valid prescriptions from anywhere in the United States and Canada—that includes US territories, like Puerto Rico.

Why do I need a prescription?

Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. If you don’t have a paper prescription, no sweat—once you provide your vet’s information, our team will take over.

Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?

Yes, but we’ll need them to provide us with your full name or the pet’s owner’s name via phone, email or chat after the order is placed, so the clinic can locate your pet’s records when we contact them.

Do prescriptions expire?

Yes. Your vet will tell us when your prescription will expire and how many refills we can send before they’d like you to check back in with them.

    Good food for Bladder stones

    By on

My best gal had bladder stones (calcium oxalate) removed a year ago, she has been on this food and we have seen improvements. We have to dilute it with some water in order to keep her interested but all in all it's doing it's job! We also feed her just about every option- Purina, Hills, Science Diet to keep her interest but this one has been the winner!

She doesn't like it at all

    By on

Only three stars. I'm sure this is helpful medically for dogs who will eat it, but I couldn't give it more stars because my dog just won't have it. Unfortunately, she ate other wet foods before trying this, so that might be making a difference. Dogs switching from dry to wet will probably do much better. Very disappointed because so many other reviewers indicated that it tasted good to their dogs.

    My dog loves this!

We switched to this brand for my dog's urinary tract problems and she absolutely loves this! She used to not eat the food we were using, but now that we found Purina, it has been so easy to keep her on the diet. Thank you.

    Great food

    By on

My Shih Tzu is very finicky and she barks continuously until I give her the Purina UR. She eats every bite and licks the bowl. I hope her kidney stones never return. I will get a test run to see if any crystals are forming. She did not like other brand of food for UR problems, so glad I found Purina Pro UR.

    If I am being honest......

    By on

My dog does not like any of the Urinary canned dog food, so its hard for me to rate this product. It has a different odor when you open the can like a smoky smell. I switched back to the other UR product I was using because my dog would at least eat some of it.

    Charlie loves it!

    By on

Charlie has struvite crystals and one is too large to pass causing him to take almost 5 minutes each morning to urinate and then he dribbles. We tried Hills PD wet and he wouldn't have any of it. Then we tried the Proplan UR dry and he wouldn't have any of it. Out of desperation I tried the wet and he loves it. I don't usually have to hide other meats inside his bowl to get him to eat it, although a tablespoon of packaged real bacon pieces at the bottom gives him incentive to eat down to them. Being a dachshund, he will sometimes wait around to see if he is going to be able to get anything else, but once he realizes that this is it, he eats it. The most impressive part is that within a Charlie has struvite crystals and one is too large to pass causing him to take almost 5 minutes each morning to urinate and then he dribbles. The most impressive part is that within a couple of feedings, we saw a great improvement of his urine stream and the time it takes for him to empty his bladder. He is not out of the woods and we have to monitor him closely each day and limit other food and treats, but at least our money isn't being wasted. Highly recommend you at least try it or talk to the vet about it. Chewy contacted the vet and they immediately provided the Rx. Received my order in just a couple of days. … more

    Dog hates this!

    By on

Sorry all you positive reviewers but my Cocker cannot stand the taste of this. I don't know what's in it but I have read other reviews elsewhere that have said the same thing. There is something in this that smells funny and that makes his disinterested. I switched to the Blue Buffalo Urinary and he loves that !! Now I'm stuck with 6 cans of this stuff and I don't know what to do with them.

    Picky dog loves it!

    By on

Very picky Havanese had to be put on special diet bc of his huge bladder stone (that was surgically removed). He was always very picky and we had tired several other foods of this type. He loves this one. I think it’s bc they add smoked flavoring. He’s been eating it for over 18 months and doing great so far.
