Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

Days 3-4 | 50% | 50% |
Days 5-6 | 25% | 75% |

Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.

Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.

Time to switch!
By Wendy on Feb 22, 2021
My cats have been on Royal Canine for a couple of years due to crystal issues. Over the last 6-10 months we noticed A LOT more vomiting around the house. We thought perhaps we just had high maintenance cats! Turns out, like many other reviews state, that Royal Canine changed their formula and many cats were dealing with excessive vomiting. We changed to Purina Pro Plan and the vomiting stopped immediately. No transition issues with changing food either. Wish I had read reviews earlier to help my cats feel better and prevent all the vomit stains!

My Fussy Cat Likes It!
By 1Starfish2 on Feb 26, 2021
I am so relieved and happy that my cat, Rudy, enjoys eating this Proplan prescription urinary dry food. I have tried feeding him Royal Canin and Hills’ brands but to no avail. And a definite bonus is that my other cat also likes the taste of this food! And importantly, so far since Rudy has been eating this food, he has exhibited no urinary problems! If you have tried countless other brands with little or no success, I recommend you give this one a try!

Needed RX food for our cat
By Melissa on Feb 18, 2021
Found out our cat has crystals in his urine which was making it hard for him to go to the bathroom. Vet said that he would need to go on urinary tract food for the rest of his life along with meds. The vet sent the RX via email to me, I screenshot it and uploaded it to the order on chewy and it was approved and delivered the next day. It’s expensive food but we don’t think we’ll need to order but a few times a year and chewy was great at getting it to us almost immediately. Will use chewy again!

Been using for over a year now
By tittycat on Feb 1, 2021
I was prescribed this food by my vet when one of my boys began having a problem going potty. He was diagnosed with FLUTD and had struvite crystals and was put on prescription food. The first food was Science Diet and he would not eat that. I did some research and saw Purina One had a prescription food, and as my kitties have always liked Purina One, I wanted to try this. I went back to the vet and asked for this food and they prescribed it. He eats it and has not had any issues since. It works so well and the results can be seen quickly. I continue to feed him this because I trust it to prevent the issue from happening again. He does get fussy once the food gets too “stale”, but he’s very good I was prescribed this food by my vet when one of my boys began having a problem going potty. A prescription diet that actually (must) taste good!
By nicole on Feb 3, 2021
My cat was diagnosed with crystals in his urine so our vet prescribed him food for Urinary Care. Initially he was prescribed Hill's brand, but my cat wouldn't go near it (we tried 2 different flavors!). I was getting nervous as there aren't many brands of urinary prescription food on the market and was worried my cat wouldn't eat any of them. Finally after getting this brand approved, my cat happily made the switch! I cannot attest to whether it's been aiding in dissolving his crystals or not since he has not been back to the vet, but he seems to be peeing more often than before, which I will take as a good sign

Picky Eater on Veterinary Diet Eats It (but only dry, not wet)
By fitzy13 on Feb 12, 2021
I've got 5 cats. 2 have specialty diets--1 for aging kidneys, and 1 for bladder issues. Those 2 special cats can't eat the other's food so feeding time is interesting. Bladder cat gets to eat this food--shut in the bedroom by herself. That's the only way to get her to eat it and not eat the regular food for the other cats. By the way, she won't touch the wet version of this food--literally sniffs at it in disgust and then sits there and looks at you. Loves this dry version though!

3rd time a charm!
By Dory on Jan 10, 2021
My vet put my sick kitty Rocky on RC, he didn’t like it snd eventually I gave up. My vet then put him on Hills. He HATED it and decided he’d starve rather than eat it. My vet doesn’t carry Purina but I researched and decided if anyone could make RX food taste good, it would be Purina and I took a shot and ordered from Chewy. My boy started eating it immediately with absolutely NO hesitation whatsoever! He’s happy and I’m incredibly relieved bc he needs to be on RX Urinary food and Purina was my last hope. Purina came through for us!!! Highly recommend!

My cat likes it
By Molly on Jan 21, 2021
I have both my cats (female, male) on this prescription cat food because my male cat struggles with urinary blockages. My vet recommended this plan and said it’s okay to feed to both cats- it’s impossible to feed them separately because they graze. So far they both like it, and haven’t suffered any ill affects and fingers crossed haven’t had any blockages since being on the food.

Myles loves it!
By Dani on Dec 4, 2020
Myles has been on an Rx urinary diet for about a year now. Was never really thrilled with anything we tried. We settled on a canned and a hard food that he was ok with. Then a few months ago, he just started losing interest in his Rx food and just wanted my other cats' food. I noticed he wasn't drinking nearly what he used to either, which is important. He started losing weight and since last year had lost 3lbs. So I began my search for an alternative Rx urinary food for him. We tried this along with the wet variety pack and its been a hit! He loves it! Thankfully. He's gained weight and is drinking more too. So thankful we found this! Oh I should mention that he also gets skin issues anytime Myles has been on an Rx urinary diet for about a year now. Was never really thrilled with anything we tried. UR prescription cat food
By Cherry on Dec 4, 2020
I was not able to get the UR prescription locally, because the local pet stores were completely out of it. It was on backorder. I was a little stressed about it and only had 5 to 7 days of food left. My cats are 11 and 17 years old (very finicky) and need to continue their prescription diet, due to chronic health issues. I did not know what I would have done if it had not arrived in time. I bought two bags to be on the safe side and will always keep one extra moving forward. I also had to contact my veterinarian to get another prescription. Once I received the updated prescription, the food was on the way the next day or so.
