About Royal Canin Kidney Health for Cats

Concerned about Your Cat’s Kidney Health?

The healthy functioning of your cat’s kidneys is essential to them living a healthy life. Their kidneys serve as a filtering system that helps remove toxins and waste from blood. You should always work with your veterinarian to monitor your cat’s kidney health.

Support Your Cat’s Quality of Life Through Kidney Health Challenges

Feed a Specific Renal Diet

Your veterinarian can recommend the right diet to support your cat’s kidney function.

Encourage Drinking Water

Make sure that your cat always has fresh and clean water available. Offering them moist food can also support hydration.

Stimulate Your Cat’s Appetite

Offer your cat a nutritional option with different taste, smell, and texture to help ensure food intake, especially for pets with a poor appetite.

How Nutrition Can Help

Your veterinarian may recommend a formula that includes:

Digestive Support

A combination of highly digestible proteins, balanced fibers, prebiotics and EPA + DHA to support digestive health.

Antioxidant Complex

Enriched with a blend of antioxidants to promote tissue and cellular health.

Kidney Support

Modified phosphorous and protein to support kidney function.

Adapted Energy

Adapted energy content to reduce meal volume and help compensate for a decreased appetite.

Add Variety and Remember to Set Autoship

Offering a range of aromas and textures can help ensure palatability and adequate food intake. Also, remember to set Autoship to make sure that your cat always has their veterinarian’s recommended nutrition.

I have 2 cats - one with kidney disease and one that is healthy. Can I feed BOTH cats this food?

Answer by ChewyNov 26, 2019
This food is intended to be fed to cats that were prescribed this by their Veterinarian only. It's recommended to consult with them before feeding to non-prescribed pets.

Can you use the different varieties interchangeably? For example, if I run out of the "A" bag, I use the "F" variety instead.

Answer by ChewyMar 09, 2021
The Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Renal Support A, F, and S foods can be easily mixed or rotated to provide multiple feeding options.

In mm what is the kibble piece size?

Answer by ChewyDec 22, 2021

My baby seemed to be getting bored with the Savory flavor (been on it for years which she will eat), so I was advised to change it up. Reviews were positive for the A flavor, but she will sniff it and walk away and not eat it. It’s supposed to be aromatic, but there was zero smell to the A. It’s a shame as it’s so expensive and she will not touch it.

So let’s be clear, thisfood is for a cat and cats are, well, cats. This cat has tried all prescription formulas from all the major brands and has settled on this, both in kibble and canned form. He hasn’t even said thank you but he is a cat. So when you are sent down this road, be prepared to try all the prescription brands available and the five star review will go to the one the cat likes. It may never let you know how much, but we’re talking cats here.

She Likes It! (Fingers Crossed)

My 15 year old spoiled princess kitty seems to like this better than any other kibble, & definitely better than the canned variety of this same prescription formula

My 15 year old spoiled princess kitty seems to like this better than any other kibble, & definitely better than the canned variety of this same prescription formula. I chose the A (aromatic) variety of it because she seems to be more interested in food if it has a good smell. But I have to feed this intermittently with cooked chicken so she doesn't get tired of it.

I have a few items that I regularly order through auto-ship, all with different schedules. Two of my items happened to be shipping around the same time, and Chewy had the forethought to ship them both together in the same box! It's little things like that that keep me ordering through Chewy.

My older cat (17) has some level of renal disease. My vet recommended changing her food, and I was given some samples from the vet's office. My cat is pretty particular with what she will eat. I was pleased that she liked this food with the sample and ordered a full bag. She continues to eat it, and hopefully, it will lengthen her life.

Itty approved!

Thank goodness for this delectable cat food. Itty is quite finicky given her condition, but she loves this dry food!

Kitty Boy, my 17 year old stage 4 renal cat, absolutely loves this food. I tried to slowly introduce it to him by mixing it in with his old food, but he picked around the old kibble and only ate the renal food. He also loves the "E" wet food. He's never been a very food motivated cat, but he consistently cleans his bowl since switching to the royal canin renal diet. The only downside is that my non-renal cat also thinks it's the most delicious thing in the world, and it's been a challenge to try and feed them separately.

Kitty loves it and his kidney panel came back much better after a couple weeks!
