Description

Lower urinary tract disease (LUTD) refers to a group of disorders that commonly leads to irritation of the urinary tract and corresponding undesirable clinical signs. What causes Lower Urinary Tract Disease? In cats, bacterial infections are far less common. Urinary crystals and stones are often linked to this disease. The most common cause of Lower Urinary Tract Disease in cats is idiopathic cystitis. This diet promotes a urinary environment unfavorable to the development of both struvite and calcium oxalate crystals.

Key Benefits

  • Complete and balanced canned cat food diet recommended for cats at risk of developing lower urinary tract disease
  • This diet promotes a urinary environment unfavorable to the development of both struvite and calcium oxalate crystals.
  • Help prevent struvite, calcium oxalate and phosphate uroliths
  • Relative Super Saturation (RSS) methodology predicts the crystallization potential of urine; RSS is used to develop diets that lower the concentration of ions contributing to struvite and calcium oxalate urolithiasis
  • Increasing the urine volume simultaneously reduces the saturation of urine with calcium oxalate and struvite crystals

On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

  • Finally able to get cat food

    By on

My cat has had terrible health issues for months and it seemed that our vet was having a hard time getting the food she recommended for me. I got the food from Chewy overnight! Thrilled that I don’t have to drive all over the place to try to find prescription food. The only small issue I had with the delivery was that several (9) of the cans had very big dents in them and I was a little concerned about seals being broken. But I used those cans first and it seemed to not be a big problem.

  • What Choice Do You Have

    By on

Our vet prescribed this product for one of our cats who had recurring bladder stones. Well, it is not like you have a lot of products to choose from that dissolve such stones. With seven cats including the sick one, we bought the canned and dry versions. Our cats eventually got used to the dry, but never took a liking to the canned and that was a month of nothing but Royal Canin SO. We cannot recommend the product, because, as we understand it, these SO foods simply cause the cats to drink more water. We would be leery of feeding them nothing but a prescription diet. However, the next time our cat develops stones we will probably ask for Royal Canin SO since we know all seven cats will Our vet prescribed this product for one of our cats who had recurring bladder stones. • Cats wake me up in the morning

    By on

Our three cats crave the SO diet which surprised me. We originally purchased a few cans and they loved it, esp the two females then our male cat, which is the reason for buying it, stopped enjoying it so we switched to another brand. After a week we gave royal canin SO another try and we have been having great luck. Its important that pets enjoy and look forward to their meals. In fact our cats rather enjoy waking us up in the morning or telling us its time for some snack in the afternoon then of course dinner. So far we have had a positive experience and just a note that Chewy has the best price out on the market.

  • Saved my Cat's life

    By on

My cat had a complete blockage that we did not think he was going to recover from as he refused to drink any water after he was catheterized and still straining to urinate. After 3 long weeks of little to no improvement on his end, we began mixing this can 1:1 with water. It seems a bit soupy at first, but the food really absorbs it after a few minutes and Significantly increases kitty's water consumption (which is when I noticed him actually start to get better). As it has been about a month of my cat now urinating excessively, I have started giving him one can a day and feeding the rest in dry urinary SO.

  • Cats enjoy it

This would be 5-star if the ingredient list wasn't so concerning... I'm not a fan of either pork or corn starch in my pet foods. However, my younger male cat had a complete blockage a few weeks ago, and is now on this food. My older male cat is eating it too. They really like it and had no trouble making the switch. It's not the cheapest food, of course, but they were already on premium food so this isn't a huge increase.

  • Amazing results!!!

    By on

Took my cat to the vet because she had blood in her urine and vet did an X-ray and found stones and said she needed surgery in well over 1700$. Told the vet I couldn’t afford that and they said this food might work. Had her on it for two weeks and they are almost all gone!!! Grant it she will be on this food for the rest of her life but it save her having surgery and me money!!! So thankful for this food!!!

  • Tazz goes nuts.

    By on

Every morning when I get home from work, my cat goes nuts for this. He won't stop crying until you give him his little wedge of wet food. It's like he's starving, but don't get me wrong we have a bowl of dry food that he eats of this special diet. He's just a spoiled cat.

  • Cats love it

We had to switch our cats from dry kibble to wet , urinary tract health food . One of them landed in the hospital due to crystals in his urethra as well as a UTI .We didn't have to worry about the switch as both cats love this new food ! They"yell" for it every day . :) And chewy.com makes it affordable and they delivered it in a timely manner . We cannot say enough good about this company or this new food .

  • Poor ingredients

    By on

My cats seem to like this food, so that’s a positive. There is only one urinary prescription food that has decent ingredients with no corn, by-products or carrageenan. It’s made by Blue Buffalo not Royal Canin. This food is very expensive and uses cheep filler ingredients.
