Place feed in habitat for feeding.
I recently transitioned my girls to this feed. They were on a whole grain feed last summer, but when the company changed the formula, I saw a lot of it wasted and my girls would not eat it! I decided pellets are probably healthier. I had them on grubbly farms pellet and whole grain feed for fall/winter, but they hated the pellets! They would not eat them no matter what I tried. I decided I'd give it one last ditch effort and try out this brand since the pellets looked smaller and better. Well, it took a good month with mixing it with their old feed (which they didn't care for), and what do you know! They love this feed and actually eat it all!! What I ended up doing was only putting enough feed in their feeder for a few days. That way they'd eat it down. After that if I noticed there were still pellets I would not refill till they'd eaten them. They were stubborn at first! But they caved eventually. They will eat when they are hungry and even eat pellets! But I will see they gobble these up and don't waste any. The company also mentions their pellets are much yummier and chickens love them. I can attest to that! They love this feed so much more than grubbly farms. I'm not sure what the deal is with grubbly farms, but it just sure didn't work for my girls. I gave it about 5 months too! One other thing I think is amazing about this feed is the quality controls! No random corn pieces mixed in (there was a lot of that with grubbly farms feed). So my advice is be patient!! They won't eat the pellets right away if they're not used to them, but after they pick out what they want, don't refill the feeder. Let them get hungry, cave and eat the pellets. They will eat when they get hungry. Trust me. Like I said now love them! I couldn't be happier! Highly recommend this feed!
I tried this and another organic feed that includes pellets. Our hens won’t touch it for some reason. Going back to crumbles since they seem to prefer that over pellets.
We are on our second bag. Our chickens love it and I have to say that the eggs have been so nice lately. So five stars from my backyard flock.
They would pick out all the grains and refuse to eat the pellets, which make up most of the bag. I don't know if we got a bad batch, the pellets themselves were very dark green and not like the photograph.
Our newly adopted chickens came with a bag of this, so we purchased more. They love it! But it's too expensive for a daily feed, we have 30 chickens, so we mix it with another feed. If it were less expensive then I'd give it 5 stars.
Apparently I raised snobby and entitled chickens. This food is no doubt the freshest food I've yet to find. It is everything it claims to be. However, my chickens pick out what they like, then toss the rest on the ground like money grows on trees. For the price, I can't continue to try to force them to love this food so my journey continues, but I do think this food is worth it for those...less entitled chickens!
My chickens love all the fun ingredients in this feed like peas, oats, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds - and I love that its a healthy, nutritionally balanced feed for them with no cheap fillers. It's a win-win for us all!
I bought this because Chewy was out of stock of my usual feed and I have to say it is a very fresh feed with visible grains. I still love my usual feed and since it's cheaper than small pet I will continue to use that and supplement with this feed when chewy is out of stock of the usual feed. Overall a very good feed just very pricey!
