I use to love Small Pet Select, the hay was fresh and very green. When they changed to a larger production, they now scoop up tons of dirt! It's so dusty, I'm coughing all the time and the storage room is filthy from the brown dirt. I spoke with their customer service, and they claimed their hay is still fresh and green, although it is definitely not. : (
Full of MILLET!
on Sep 15, 2020
I have been buying SPS hay for over 2 yrs now, usually directly from them. I got a bad brown, chopped batch once that they replaced. However this batch is full of wild millet. Guinea pigs should not eat millet. There is also some yellowish/tan straw like hay in there. It's a shame, because there is decent hay mixed in, but I've tried sorting it and still end up finding millet that snuck passed me. I think SPS's quality control is slipping. I love that they and Chewy have great customer service, but not having good hay for my babies is frustrating and writing these reviews and looking for better hay is time consuming.
super fresh, green, fragrant hay - piggies love it!

My piggies LOVE this hay. It smells like the freshest hay, is vibrant green, and there are tons of the leafy green bits that my pigs love.
Small Pet Select is a great company (my piggies will only eat their guinea pig pellets).
Some of the finest timothy hay I have purchased.
Piggies will not eat it.

I was excited to try this hay because I have seen it mentioned on different sites. Packaging was good it comes in a box that can be re-closed, so that was good. When I opened the box I was not impressed there were a lot of brown pieces throughout the hay, it didn't have a fresh smell like I have seen with other hay. I also noticed it is much harder and course than my previous brand which is also second cut. I tried to give this to my piggies over a 2 day period and they just won't eat it. I am now heading to a local pet store to buy hay which defeated the purpose of ordering it. Whether this was a bad box or not I don't know but it's not worth paying another 30 bucks to find out.
Baby bun buns

My little fur bunnies love this hay. The quality has been consistently high and I love the recloseable box it comes in. They’re great for storage boxes when the hay is gone.
Quality not good on this shipment

The quality is bad. Lots of of dark brown pieces and Dusty and it doesn’t smell fresh. Very disappointed because Small Pet Select had always been great before this.
Nothing but Straw

This hay is very hard and my guinea pig won’t eat it. It doesn’t even smell fresh. Lots of dust, brown pieces, and very long dried out stalks of grass. Very messy

Found the string entangled in the box of hay pictured below, been picking pieces out throughout the box!
Great Hay for small animals

I love Small Pet Select. I have been buying their hay close to a year now. They are so nice and will give me my money back if the hay is not good. Hay is a seasonal product. It is not always the best. But I love the hay! I give it five stars!
