will this work on my 5lb Pomerian the size 3 was the smallest one

What size does a 7 fit ? I have a 45lb Brittany.

Answer by ChewyDec 08, 2019
The size 3 muzzle fits a nose circumference measuring 5 inches, the size 4 muzzle fits a nose circumference measuring 6 inches, the size 5 muzzle fits a nose circumference measuring 7 inches, the size 6 muzzle fits a nose circumference measuring 8 inches and the size 7 muzzle fits a nose circumference measuring 9.5 inches.

How to tell what size to purchase

Answer by ChewyMar 13, 2021
For the complete sizing chart, click the “Size” tab, next to the “Instructions” tab, just under the product photos. Click the "Size" tab, next to the "Highlights" tab, towards the top bar above the product image when viewed on the app. If your pet falls between one of the sizes, we recommend getting the size up.

How do I measure his nose?

Answer by ChewyDec 05, 2022
To measure the nose circumference, carefully wrap the tape measure around your dog's snout. This should be done half an inch below the dog's eyes.

The latest in Beagle fashion

My beagle LOVES to eat rocks! Those dig-a-foot-deep-in-the-ground, 'juicy tasting' rocks. After being awoken during the night on multiple occasions by his regurgitation of the aforementioned sedimentary nuggets, and after rushing him to the vet for emergency surgery to have one removed from his small intestine, it was time to put an end to his pebble-seeking hobby. Unfortunately, the Remote Training Collar I purchased did zilch to curb his geologic quest so, on my veterinarian's recommendation, I ordered a muzzle and tried a couple of different brands before settling on this one. Pros: It's lightweight, easy to put on and remove, doesn't interfere with his second-favorite hobby of barking/baying at everything he sees, allows him to drink water, eat treats, and snuffle in the dirt to his heart's content, and, best of all, has prevented the ingestion of anything with a circumference larger than a Cocoa Puff. Cons: The mesh fabric around the 'nose' part of the muzzle frays quickly, the strap tension is a bit tricky - too tight and the muzzle squishes his face right below his eyes; too loose and he can paw it off, and if the plastic snap connector breaks (has already happened, glad I had a spare ) there's no way to fasten the muzzle. It's trash at that point. Overall, I'm pleased with the product. My boy only wears it for short periods of time when he's outside in the (fenced) yard 'doing his stuff' (potty) or chasing his sisters, and he's always supervised.

Nice mesh muzzle for short time use

I like this muzzle, if your dog has to wear one. My vet now insists my dog wears a muzzle when getting a nail trim because he is reactive when pinched. D-uh.

I like this muzzle, if your dog has to wear one. My vet now insists my dog wears a muzzle when getting a nail trim because he is reactive when pinched. D-uh. Well Size 7 was too big, size 6 a bit too small but since it is fabric I think it will stretch. (My dog is 65 pounds, but his snout is not particularly long or wide. The dog doesn't like it, immediately tries to paw it off, and it will take some time to make him comfortable enough for the brief time he has to wear it. Sorry I couldn't get a photo of him with the muzzle, he's too quick!! :-)

My 28 lb girl is reactive at first meet/greetings. This does prevent her from biting in that initial fear response (been working with a trainer for a year and have years of experience, she is a troubled rescue). The problem is that when she realized she could "dig" at it with her front paws, she shredded the mesh. The skeleton is still there but I think we need something tougher. This has nothing to do with Chewy though, you are great.

MEASURE Muzzle of Dog

Soo honestly I love it, I haven't tried it yet for my malamutes nail trim because I had other things to get done today. I probably could/should have ordered a size

Soo honestly I love it, I haven't tried it yet for my malamutes nail trim because I had other things to get done today. I probably could/should have ordered a size 6 instead of 7. Its definitley great quality, I tried it on Thor and my biggest concern is that it's very loose at the end of his muzzle so he can still open his mouth about an inch or two. I was looking for it to be a little tighter than that but loose enough he could open his mouth enough but not with his teeth coming apart from each other. He hates nail trims in his old age, so I purchased just to take extra precautions. I think it'll still work, but he could definitley still do a bit more than nip with it on, if I'm not careful and have him restrained. Which he will be restrained, I used to be a vet tech so I in turn taught my husband how to properly restrain with as minor discomfort as possible. All in all definitely measure your dog's muzzle before purchasing, because going by breed suggestions and comparing them to other breeds, even though they're close to the same build/body structure, may get you the wrong size. Thor is a 9 year old, 130 pound Giant Alaskan Malamute. So it makes sense why I figured a size 6 would be to small, because an Akita is like half the size of Thor. But a Saint Bernard has a more of a boxy squared muzzel than an alaskan malamute. So I just figured a 7 would work fine. Totally my fault, but live and learn. I'm still gonna give it a go.

Why stop at suze 7?

I ordered this muzzle for my bull mastiff because of the good reviews, but wasn't sure if the largest size Chewy offers (size 7) would fit him. But decided to try it anyway. I got it yesterday and sure enough it's very tight and I'm sure uncomfortable for him but looking at the package I see there are three larger sizes they manufacture. A size 8 would've been perfect for my Socrates. There's even a size XL!! How come Chewy doesn't sell it? I'd love to buy another to fit him properly.

Works well without being so constricted

I use a muzzle on one of my dogs because he absolutely hates baths and although he has never bitten us, he snaps and I don’t want it to get worse. He’s quite calm

My elderly dog HATES to get her nails trimmed. It’s an all out free for all so I usually send her to the vet which costs aplenty. After eyeing this little number, I thought why not try it? Well I strapped it on her (not too tight) and got through a quick trim better than we ever have!!!! It’s okay to muzzle if it’s for a specific job I think. I would never muzzle for more than a few minutes out of respect and love for my animal.
