My Shih Tzu "The Coach" has bladder stones and must eat food and treats perscribed by his vegetarian. He prefers these soft baked treats over the crunchy biscuit alternative. He has always been a treat-motivated companion. These are my go to treats until he's back to good health. I highly recommend them to your own four legged baby.
I almost didn't order these because there were a lot of negative comments regarding them being too hard. But went ahead and gave them a try. My dog is 14 years old, 15 lb. and missing a couple front teeth, but she was able to chew these up quickly and beg for more. She loves them. I first asked my husband to break in half, and she had no problem so gave her one whole and it took her a little longer to eat, but she didn't have a problem. I will purchase again.
BUT, if you think soft baked means they are soft, they are not. My dog is a dachshund and she would swallow it whole if she could. So I put one in microwave for 6 seconds to soften it and then I can break apart to give to my dog. They work great for her special diet. She loves them. If your dog has specials needs as mine does. this is perfect.
My dog 25lb chizer/ poodle is suffering stage 2 Renal Failure and it's hard to get him to eat anything!! He loves this doggies treat!! I'm glad it's not too small! It's a little hard, ( like the consistency of T boz dog treats) but easy enough to break apart with your hands. My dog break them apart himself easily also! I break apart give him a small piece. Them crumble the rest into his food encouraging him to eat. Sometimes he only picks out his treats, sometimes he will eat other food too.
Very dissatisfied with these treats. I have 3 seniors with CKD and I was excited to see these soft baked treats. 2 of my pups have just a few teeth and can't have hard treats. These treats have the consistency of tire rubber. Neither one of my dentally challenged pups can eat them and my other pup with all of her teeth that can eat any type of treat had a horrible time trying to chew these as well. They are a terrible consistency.
Our puppies love their treats. Though I've attempted to find recipes for Struvite Bladder Stones in dogs, the Vet says, "No." stick with the Hills Prescription food...and then I discovered they have these treats, too! Our babies love them!
When I first purchased these the picture on the website was different and totally misrepresented the product. I only purchased them because my usual product was out of stock. I'm glad I did because my girls love 'em. They really look forward to treat time. I like them because they don't smell as chemically as their other treats did.
I wish the dog was allowed to have more than one per day, She's only 13 lbs but will take these treats any time. They're soft enough to chew and easy to break pieces by hand.
As other reviewers noted, these are not soft. They are quite hard. But I used pizza shears to cut them in quarters and stuffed the quarters in megalast megabones. My3 Shelties all loved them. Hard was good.
Annie loves them. I do need to break into small pieces as she can not chew them. She has a dental problem. The texture is a little harder then a thought they would be as it says soft chew. But will continue to get for her because she loves them.
