The Lixit Retractable Cable Dog Tie Out is an in-ground tie-out system that gives pets the freedom to roam. A steel stake keeps it securely planted in the ground, and the retractable cable attaches to the collar with a durable steel spring clip. The top rotates 360 degrees to give pups a large roaming area without getting all tangled up in the cable.

It is always best to use a harness with your tie out. Some dogs do not like the constant “tug” at the neck; a harness always provides more control and comfort for your dog.
The “T” is provided to enable you to drive the stake into the ground without striking the unit directly, use caution when striking, if you lose this piece you can use a piece of wood over the nut to hammer into the ground. Do not remove the acorn nut from the housing and strike the pole directly. Do not strike the housing directly.
After firmly pushing/hammering the stake into the ground, up to the white line just below the housing you may attach your dog. It is best to walk your dog out to the length of the tie out so he has an idea of how far they can go.
A Tie out is meant to be a temporary control for your pet and should not be used for extended periods of time. Always supervise your dog while tethered.

The concept of the product is great. I actually have purchased many of them. This should lead one to assume why I would purchase so many of them as I only have one dog. I have purchased so many because they KEEP BREAKING! I have always purchased the large size, and my Dutch/Mal is not even close to the weight maximum. The metal bands/springs they are made with continually break. If the spring/band does not break then the cable will kink and break. If Lixit would strengthen the springs/bands and their cables they would have an awesome product. Unfortunately, they only last about a month with a 65-pound energetic dog.
The tie out is easy to install and seems to work well, however the tension is a bit too strong. I got the medium which is what was recommended for my dog's size and weight, but it pulls her back when tethered. She doesn't like it. If the tension were adjustable or just enough to bring it back to the station, it would be a 5 star.
After 2 times using the retractable our 23 pound dog it stopped retracting and is of no use
We purchased this retractable tie out and it rusted and you can barely even open the clasp
We purchased the small version of this retractable tie out for my 10 pound Pomeranian. When I clip it on her she can’t sit up straight because the retractable leash is trying to pull her into its base. She’s bigger than a toy sized dog so I’m not sure how this is supposed to work for tiny Chihuahuas or Yorkies because it certainly doesn’t work for my 10 pound Pomeranian.
If you are planning to get the cable please make sure your dog is not to small to pull the cable out because my dog was. she weighs around 5 to 7 lbs and was unable to pull the cable without the cable snatching her back
I have a 33 lb Australian Bernedoodle and I don't this. I saw negative reviews and I figured oh people are just picky but now I agree with them. I very rarely had to use this and when I did I had to stand right next to it for multiple reasons. 1. He was getting constantly tangled up (around neck and legs) from it pulling to retract while he was just standing there. 2. He was able to easily pull it out of the ground, which then sends it FLYING at him to retract. So he's scared as ever from the flying stake but then me running to make sure he doesn't get away. 3. Retracting mechanism feels as if it's starting to fail already. Really disappointed by the product.
Great product works as advertised but the retractable portion is a bit too strong even for my 90lb Bernese who loves to pull. He’s not a big fan of how strong the pull is so I would have gone with a medium sized one if I’d buy again.
This model is great. No more wording if your dog is going to get himself wound around the chain. This has a retractable cable. Heavy duty strength is worth the price.
I bought the first one and within 3 months it quit working. Chewy sent me a replacement ( because they’re awesome) and this one lasted 8 months (I’m late writing my review .) That’s better but way to expensive to only last between 3-8 months! I wish they would improve this product bc its a great concept!
