Since Origins has no preservatives, once it is opened what is its shelf life?

Once opened, you can safely store ORIJEN and ACANA food in its packaging by rolling the top of the bag down tightly after each use. Heat, moisture and light have the biggest impact on shelf life. For the best flavor and taste experience we recommend purchasing a bag size that your pet will use within 4-8 weeks.
Where are the ingredients sourced from? Does ingredient come from China? What is the percentage of protein that comes from animal products?

ORIJEN does not source ingredients directly from China, though their B vitamins are made with raw materials that originate in China. This would apply to vitamins B1, B6, and B9, and is consistent throughout the pet food industry. ORIJEN food goes through a comprehensive supplier management and verification program to ensure ingredient safety. Up to 88% of the protein will originate from animal ingredients.

Across all Orijen dog food, dried fish, poultry and meat ingredients are made of flesh, bones and cartilage, and provide a concentrated source of protein, with their bone content providing a very rich source of minerals. Dried ingredients are made by removing water from the meat, bone, and cartilage ingredients through a cooking process.

Finally a food he can eat

My German Shepherd is vaccine injured with many food allergies. I’ve had him tested. I just needed a topper to make his hamburger go further and wanted to test some hard dog food in case of times I can’t buy beef. Starting out small he’s tolerating it very well. It was the only dog food. I could find that didn’t have rice and peas high on the list of ingredients. It seems to work well and he likes it a lot. Thank you.

Always a good choice

I have been a long time user of Orijen dog foods for my previous pets and they have always been high-quality. I have a new puppy that I was transitioning from junk dog food that the rescue group had her on and within 7 days of transitioning her to Orijen Puppy, her poops went from pale and mushy to firm and brown. Much healthier for her. It is expensive but worth it and if you compare how much less you need of it daily for your pet to many other inferior brands, it is even more worth it. Once my pup turn 1 year old, I will switch her to Orijen Original.

Caution!!

My puppy (poodle) has an intolerance to this food. It was a gradual reaction, I thought he had a GI blockage or had eaten something he shouldn't have, but by approximately week number six he was purging his GI tract every morning (coming out both ends!

High quality

We switched our 10 week old Boston from Blue and BilJac to this and it was such an easy switch. Easy on her tummy and she absolutely LOVES it. Quality ingredients- you can smell the fresh/raw as soon as you open the bag. Worth every penny!!!

Water guzzler

I have fed my dogs orijen and have noticed that they drink much more water than normal. When they were on taste of the wild they weren't drinking as much. I wonder if anyone else has this problem with their dogs drinking more water than usual.

Best Food on the Market

When my goldendoodle puppy came home at 8 weeks old, she had been eating Purina Pro Plan Puppy and had terrible diarrhea, was super skinny, and didn't really want to touch her food. After doing extensive research to find her something that was good quality, I decided on Orijen even though the price tag made me sweat. But boy, is that price worth it!! I opted not to put her through the slow transition phase since she was already struggling so badly, and after just a couple of days her diarrhea cleared up, she became much more active, brighter, and happier. Now at 9 months old, she has only been eating this food and is SUPER healthy! I free feed her, and because there are no fillers and empty calories in this food, she eats only what she needs. She's a perfect weight, has lots of energy, her coat is wonderful, and her digestive issues completely gone. I plan to keep her on this brand once she switches over to adult food. Thanks Orijen for making my puppy's tummy happy!
