Is this safe if sprayed on my dog's plush toy in the car? If she lays on it or mouths it ?
Answer by ChewyJun 12, 2019
It's okay if some of the spray get on your pets toy. Wait 10 minutes before bringing your dog to the sprayed area. Never spray Adaptil directly on your dog and never spray in the carrier if your dog is inside.

Can this be sprayed on a bandana that my dog wears if we wait 10 minutes before putting it on him? Can it be sprayed on his bed? (I saw a similar question was asked before but wasn't given a straight answer to)
Answer by ChewyJul 10, 2019
The spray can be used on any surface. It's recommended to wait 10 minutes before placing the bandana on your dog so the alcohol smell can wear off.

Does Adaptil help with thunderstorms?
Answer by ChewyMay 02, 2019
Many pet parents have reported that this supplement helps their dogs with anxiety during Thunderstorms, however each dog is different and results may vary.

Will this product sedate the dog?
Answer by ChewyJun 25, 2019
This spray does not sedate or medicate your pet. Adaptil releases a synthetic copy of the pheromone secreted by a mother dog, that naturally appeases and calms dogs. Research has demonstrated that the reassuring properties of the dog-appeasing pheromone are effective for dogs of all ages.

no miracle but it works to some degree

This is my third labrador retriever. This new pup is very reactive, emotional and smart. Barks at everything--- big prey drive, in the car he will not sit still he is bonkers-- barks at people walking on sidewalk, cars that pull up next to us, tries to climb to front seat. On the front porch he is self appointed 'sheriff' has to bark at every squirrel, bird, person that walks in front of the house (we are presently heavily into training). We waited to write this review after we used the spray 3 times in the car. It is not a miracle spray but it does seem to calm him down a bit . We have him tethered to a seat belt and after some initial whining and protesting (before spray it was insane I was dropping treats in the back seat like rain) he seems to calm down a bit. We spray it all over the back of the car and wait 15 minutes and leave the windows up. Once in the car we turn on the AC or open windows. Yes it does have a strong alcohol smell but that dissipates quickly. We thought this was just going to be a waste of money but we were willing to try anything before putting him on meds (prozac) which our vet mentioned. After the third time using this my husband said 'do they sell this by the gallon?' like I said not a miracle but it has helped.

Life saver

I see a lot of one star reviews... My dog is a 55lb aussie who stresses out on car rides and is highly reactive. The trainer sprayed this once on his bandana and he visibly relaxed. He became a much quieter version of himself and it was easier to work with him. Again, he was still himself, just slightly toned down. Do not use this spray if you expect your dog to completely change and do not expect the spray to work the same on all dogs! Buying products like these are a gamble!!

It seems to work, but nothing miraculous

I was extremely skeptical when my vet suggested this for my 14 year old 75 lb Siberian Husky. He is very anxious and when he is in the car it's the worst. He constantly whines, his jaw chatters, he moves all over (as far as his harness and seatbelt will allow). I have to sit in the backseat with him while my husband drives or it's a nightmare of him trying to do everything he can to get up front. I thought nothing short of sedating him would matter. I've used this three times. About 15 mins before we leave I spray about 10 sprays all over the back seat hammock. It surprisingly seems to make a difference. Nothing extremely huge, but a noticeable difference. He still does the jaw shaking, but he doesn't whine anymore and isn't flopping all over. He seems content to sit and just look out the window in a calmer manner. He still moves a bit but not as much as before. To us, it is worth it as he as health issues and needs to be seen monthly at the vet, so making his car ride a little less stressful is important. So it's not perfect but it's decent and we will continue to buy it. Also to note, we did try the infuser and I had not noticed any difference at all with that.

A big help

As a rescue organization we use the travel spray when picking up our dogs that arrive at JFK by plane from Spain. When parking the car before pick up, I spray this inside and on the blankets. It helps the dogs to relax and recover after a very long and stressful flight

Waste of money

I purchased this product on recommendation from my vet for my dog who suffers from separation anxiety. First, the bottle comes only 3/4 full....really? 2nd, it does absolutely nothing-probably because if you read the ingredients it is pretty much a bottle of evaporating alcohol. This has had absolutely no effect on my dog who is only a 12 pound Shih Tzu. I would give zero stars if I could.

Great product

I have used this product time and time again, it works with all five of my dogs. I use it for any stressful situation because they are all extremely high-strung rescues. I highly recommend Adaptil.

Didn’t work!

I had this product recommended to me to try on my very high strung standard poodle pup during our training classes. Point blank- it didn’t work at all. In fact, she seemed even more out of control. The alcohol smell when first sprayed was quite off putting. I had high hopes which were dashed by this product’s failure to work for my pup.

It seems to work.

My German Shepherd always gets whiny around my cats when they want some attention from me. I started to put adaptil on his blanket where he sleeps and around his collar when we go for a walk......It does seem to mellow him out alittle. Chewy had a great price on it also.

No difference

I purchased this product (along with several other Adaptil products) for a rescue Frenchie we recently adopted. Unfortunately, after a month, I have seen absolutely no change in her fear and anxiety levels from what they were before. I’m pretty bummed, because these products aren’t cheap and I really wanted something to work for her.
