Feed Pregnant Dogs up to 50% more during the last 3 weeks of pregnancy. During Lactation and Puppies up to 6 months old, require twice the amount of food as an Adult dog and they should be fed 3 - 4 times a day. Puppies, 6 months to a year, twice daily. Senior and Overweight Dogs may be fed a reduced amount, depending on the dog's weight and activity level. The above Daily Feeding Guidelines are a good starting point on the amount of food suggested to be fed on a daily basis. If you feed more than once per day, simply divide the Daily Feeding Guidelines by the amount of times fed per day. Fresh water should be available at all times.
We have found that the smoothest transition from one dog food to another is to mix the foods together. When changing to CANIDAE some dogs may do better by making a gradual transition over 7 - 10 days. Start with 25% of the new food mixed with 75% of the previous diet and gradually increase the new while decreasing the previous until the transition is complete

Beware of Changed Product
By Ealy on Dec 27, 2020
I have been purchasing this dog food for over 6 years without incident. However, it has become evident that something with this food has changed. The most recent bag that I purchased has wreaked havoc on my dogs otherwise normal digestive system. Without going into too much detail it essentially gave him horrendous IBS for over a week. For a few days I tried the normal tricks of mixing it with the older bag of food, boiled chicken and white rice, etc. in order to transition his body to this new bag. To no avail, even 10 pieces of this kibble was enough to upset his stomach. Once I connected the dots and realized the food must be the culprit I immediately stopped feeding him this, switched to I have been purchasing this dog food for over 6 years without incident. Very disappointing, and I hope this has not happened to other pets. … more

bad food (period)
By erbhome on Oct 30, 2020
This was the brand recommended by the breeder and we did everything to convince our baby girl basset hound to eat it, including hand feeding. With a great deal of resistance on our doggie’s part, we went through one 5-lb, one 15-lb, 2 cups from the second 15-lb bag of dry and 13 cans of wet, that’s it. Before this single-protein formula, we also tried its multi-protein version which our doggie rejected as soon as she smelled it, not dry and wet. Two days ago, our doggie stopped eating this food, period. Her stomach was growling and she acted as ‘no doubt’ hungry dog but she has never touched or allowed this food in her mouth ever again.

Mostly crumbs
By becca on Jan 10, 2021
Switching brands after many years. Past few bags have been mostly crumbs - all the way through the bag, not just the end of the bag. Very disappointing quality control. With so many excellent other brands available it would be absurd to tolerate such terrible quality.

really stinky gas
By barb on Oct 25, 2020
I read really god reviews on this food and how vets recommend this food, but I should have never switched my dog to it, now he has extremely bad gas. He never had this problem with his prior food Eukanuba. Going back to it, not sure what I will do with the rest of the bag of food I just bought but I really not feel like having my house reek like dog farts and gaging and covering my nose all day long.

Peke's love this food......
By Pekemom on Oct 27, 2020
My Both Peke's eat this food right up! They don't pick out the pieces. The kibbles are small enough for my Peke's to eat it right up. I usually change their diet about every bag. I keep one stable food and mix another w/it. With this, they don't pick it out of what I give them w/their stable food. I am very happy w/this food as are Mia and Madsy!

Surprised at bag size
By Fergie on Dec 11, 2020
I recently bought several 44 lb bags of Canidae to try while it was on sale. I was quite surprised how small the bags were. I dont understand how a 44 lb bag can be only 2/3 the size of a 35 lb bag of premium competitors.

Food was crumbs
By Paloma on Dec 6, 2020
Unfortunately this product did not work well for me. Ten percent of the bag was nothing but crumbs. Had to toss it. Not really Chewy's fault, but wanted to make folks aware. Maybe I got a bad bag?

Not for my dogs
By Melissa on Nov 5, 2020
This food wasn’t liked by my lab and blue healer and caused gas and runny stool even after months. Switching to a new food. Chewy has amazing customer service and has been great!

Stay Away!!
By Jackson515 on Oct 5, 2020
If I could give this a 0, I would. I got this because I have a 2 boxer household, or did, until recently. The food used to be good, and the chunks bigger, but something changed and the food came out smaller my boxers couldn’t tolerate it as much. I called the company to see why they switched and they were very rude and implied that the food was always tiny chunks. And then my 8.5 year old boxer ended up having a massive pancreatic tumor. Not worth the money. Stay away. I’m switching my remaining boxer to another food.

Gurgly stomach
By Lucy on Oct 27, 2020
My dog eats anything. He's a rescue after all. This food makes him gassy and his poop is like liquid! I'm so sad this is happening to so many of our pups. What can be done about this food?
