About ORIJEN Dry Dog Food

The Pinnacle of Nutrition

Dogs are ancestral carnivores, and they thrive on a biologically appropriate diet. ORIJEN provides optimal canine nutrition by using unsurpassed quantities of fresh or raw meat from a variety of Wholeprey animal protein sources.

85% Animal Ingredients

With 85% premium animal ingredients, each ORIJEN dog food recipe provides a strong source of essential protein, vitamins and minerals in their most nourishing forms. It’s a high-protein diet designed to feed your best friend’s carnivorous cravings. *Approximate and derived from the unprocessed state of the ingredients. **Animal protein

Nourish As Nature Intended

Fresh ingredients preserved solely through refrigeration and raw ingredients frozen at the peak of freshness stay true to their form. This minimalist approach preserves important nutrients and keeps closer to the diet your canine evolved to eat.

The first 5 ingredients are always fresh or raw animal sources, including nutrient-rich meat, poultry, whole fish, and organs.

ORIJEN recipes include meat, organs, and bone, so your dog can enjoy the most nutrient-dense and succulent parts of the prey.

With at least 15 fresh or raw ingredients in every recipe, ORIJEN kibble is the closest thing to feeding a raw diet.

Transitioning to ORIJEN

Acclimate your dog to a new ORIJEN diet by transitioning gradually from the old food you were feeding. Start by replacing 25% of the old diet with ORIJEN food, increasing the new food amount proportionally over the next 10-14 days. By the end of the second week, you should be feeding 100% ORIJEN.

ORIJEN makes foods to help pets thrive, so they can stay healthy and strong through all their days. Their Wholeprey approach means including the most nutrient-dense and delicious parts of the prey in their recipes, to deliver the complete nutrition cats and dogs evolved to eat. Help your best friend reach his fullest potential with a biologically appropriate diet from ORIJEN.

Questions & Answers

17 Customer Questions

Does Orijen process this kibble by high heat extrusion?
Answer by ChewyJan 19, 2021
ORIJEN's extrusion process cooks ingredients gently in their own juices with steam to ensure maximum flavor potential. The process typically cooks at temperatures between 195-240 degrees Fahrenheit which are high enough to remove any harmful pathogens that can be present in fresh meats, while low enough to maintain the nutritional integrity of the ingredients.

Why do you use meat meal? Meat meal is cooked at high temperatures.
Answer by ChewyJan 28, 2021
ORIJEN uses a mix of fresh, raw, and dry ingredients. The fresh and raw meat ingredients along with the fresh fruit and vegetable content arrive in their natural state and retain the highest nutritional value. The dry ingredients are a quality, concentrated protein source which is important in providing a Biologically Appropriate diet.

How many cups in a 25-lb bag?
Answer by ChewyJan 19, 2021
There are approximately 100 cups of food in the 25 pound bag.

Is there any supplemental taurine added to the food? Or something equivalent to taurine?
Answer by ChewyFeb 10, 2021
This recipe does not have taurine added, though taurine is naturally present in meat.

Verdict is still out.

Well, we're not sure about this one. The verdict is still out on rather or not it's a hit. I wanted to change proteins from the Regional Red. I'll be going back to the Regional Red before this bag is gone and mix it up. Wasn't planning on making the Tundra a steady diet mainly because of the higher price.

Good quality product

This brand sells you right off the top with the raw food pics and presentation on the bags. Great product but I went to the Orijen Original just because I got more per the 25lbs bag vs Tundra’s 13lb bag.

Kibble / Raw

Like everything the price is soooo high and I can never find a coupon but this is far better than I’ve ever fed ! Better poop and she eats less <3 highly recommend this product. It’s as close to raw as you can find the first 5-6 ingredients are MEAT

Good Kibble

This kibble smells just like it's advertised - lots of real food! Be careful though, it's a lot to digest. I'm still working on transitioning, she's only 22 months, she couldn't handle the puppy version, but maybe the good stuff will be good for her now. Tundra seems great kibble. Notably, it's extremely high protein and multiple ingredients, so it's not a simple transition even though we're working off of Wellness Core Wholesome Grains Original Recipe High Protein. I included the grains because she seemed to need them. Nonetheless, she isn't thriving on it. I'm looking for kibble that she does thrive on. Three stars only coz we haven't transitioned totally, and stools have been still often looser than I would like, but I have high hopes. I just want to find a kibble she thrives on, and this is a good start :)

definitely recommend

My basset hound has only ever been on two dry kibbles. Since I got him as a pup he was on Orijen large breed kibble which he loved and it allowed him to fill out nicely and be so lean. So many people are surprised when they see him so active and fit as most basset hounds are extremely overweight. Once he was ready to transition to adult kibble I actually tried switching him to Essence (which he also loved but he was getting some bad reactions to it, a lovely brand just not the right fit for my pup). When I put back on Orijen everything cleared. He LOVES the Tundra kibble. It does smell a little fishy but as long as you have it in a container with a lid it isn’t an issue. He gets 2 cups a day and the first time he tried it he was begging for more. Had probably ate close to 3 cups of food that day because he loved the new taste.

This food is amazin, our dogs love every refill of their dish, their coats are shinier (didn't think that was possible), and softer, they have more energy and are havin less and less excessive stools as well as lookin fabulous! We have several dogs with special dietary needs and this food actually fits in the needs for all of them.

Great Brand reasonable price

We've recently switched our dogs to the Orijen brand food. We've been pleased with the Tundra variety. The dogs seem to like the flavor. They work with puzzles or treat dispensers to eat meals. It keeps them from gobbling down their meals. The Orijen satisfies our picky eater and does not upset either tummy.

Fish Breath

Even though it’s gotten more expensive, we order it for our dog every third time or so due to the ingredients. Her breath has a slight fishy odor right after she eats, but that usually passes.

Great food

I would highly recommend. Great ingredients. No fillers and undeeded items in this dog food. Packed with protein. My dog loves it super sensitive to chicken and beef kibbles so this was right down his alley. I know eating the best.

Picky Dog loves it!

I own an English Bull Terrier and he's a very picker eater. he's not food-driven at all. there would be some days he just wouldn't eat at all because food isn't his thing. But after buying him this food he's always excited to eat and never misses a meal now!
