Chewy had the best price for this vet-recommended product. It was easy to set up. The lancing device was trash. The loud click bothered my 9 year old chocolate lab, who was recently diagnosed with diabetes. It also could not penetrate his skin to be able to get a blood sample. I used the lancets by hand and tried the “usual” spots for getting blood. It took nearly a month to figure out that the tip of his tail worked best. Part of my draw to the AlphaTracker 2 was its ability to download the data. Unfortunately, the device did not come with the cable to do so, adding to the already exuberant costs of treating a pet with diabetes.
Highly recommended. We were all thumbs at first but got better each time. It's best to have a 2nd person to help out. We did not use the lancing device, but rather pricked him by hand inserting the lancet a bit sideways as near the marginal vein as possible to get the drop of blood. We asked our vet to demo for us prior to our flying solo and making a mistake. Our 1st try was very nervous and clumsy. Wanted to give up, but couldn't let our little buddy down. We succeeded and learned to do it correctly! Set up was a bit scary as I'm not gadget savvy. But would certainly recommend this product.
Useless. I have tried every setting and only get the tiniest speck of blood, not enough for test strip to read sample. All this is doing is pricking my dog repeatedly and wasting lancets and test strips. I have tried massaging and warming the area. Watched multiple how to videos. It just does not get enough blood for sample OR the test strips are defective. Guess I have to spend more money on another vet visit to test BG since I cannot do it at home. I would like a partial refund so that I can buy different lancets and lancet device.
Unfortunately, my cat passed away before I could give an accurate review, he had a lot of complications from his diabetes and his poor little body just couldn't handle it. The times that we did use it, it was fast and great, super easy and painless!
This has been the most frustrating experience. I get enough blood, it's set to the right setting, and I have gone through 20 different strips. Since purchasing, only 3 have worked. This is making my cat super stressed and even when I get enough blood I get error codes! So freaking disappointed.
Needed to get this product to test cat's glucose. Really was sure if capable, but this set came timely as usual, in great condition, every worked properly. This set is a great starter set that I will rely on. There is a learning curve but don't give up on it! The pricing on this was really fair compared to other retailers!
The monitor works well and is easy to use; but the included lancet device does not provide a good blood drop even on the deepest setting, and my cat seemed to find it painful. I replaced the lancet device with a different one that has a smaller lancet and uses vacuum to draw the blood drop out.
Our cat was recently diagnosed with diabetes. We were recommended this product by several veterinarians. It is easy to use and reasonably priced. I wished it stayed active for slightly longer once you put the strip in, since it can be difficult to get a sample that quickly. However, it's overall an easy to use device and has made our glucose monitoring at home easy and convenient.
This is our second meter. Gave the first one to a friend. It is a godsend. Our kitty is on prednisolone, (which can elevate blood glucose),so this makes monitoring him at home easy and quick. It takes a little getting used to, but then is easy to use.
This was our 2nd. The 1st the pet sitter used wrong, & broke. Our dog had diabetes 5+ years. Easy to use.
