My dog loves Blackwood and I appreciate how they never been recalled however my dog started getting yeast in her ears after feeding her this food. I noticed the difference between this and her old food was that this one had beet pulp and Millet. Talked to the vet and she said it could increase yeast in dog ears. So be aware.
I’ve been feeding my dogs this for years. Sadly, I will not be ordering it anymore since the price is almost double what it used to be. There’s plenty of food brands with similar ingredients for a much better price. I understand prices have increased on almost everything but this increase is a little more extreme than others.
Loved this dog food did well for my dogs, BUT got way to expensive. Where there are comparable foods at lower prices.
I have used this food for a few years for my large dog. Recently I would switch out a month with Iams but her energy level and disposition is noticeably better when we switch back to this. I have to make sure to give her a little extra moisture or oil because it does make hard poops
Made my golden retriever sick after eating it only twice
I switched from Castor and Pollux to Blackwood -salmon for my 4 year old after switching my puppy to the Blackwood puppy formula and seeing how much he liked it. My 4 y.o. Was having loose stools on and off and was gassy. Since being on the Blackwood sensitive stomach -salmon for the past 3 weeks, her stools are well formed and she is not as gassy. She loves the kibble and gobbles it right up. She is no longer jealous of my puppy food.
My dog has a delicate digestive system. Blackwood kibble agrees with him, and he seems to metabolize more of it than other foods. He needs a bit less of this food to maintain his weight and yard pick up is easy.
I only gave it a two star because my dog use to love it and he will not touch it I wanted to give a little while to see if he would touch it nope he will not
I rotate my dogs foods. I will buy something and they will eat it for a bit and then stop. I had purchased this one before. When I checked I saw the price has gone up $27 a bag. You have got to be kidding me. Not really sure what Blackwood thinks they are doing, but that does not help the consumer at all. Found another brand at my local pet store, very similar ingredients for less than half the price of this.
It has great ingredients and it’s all life stages. So I am able to feed it to my growing puppy and two adult dogs. They all did really well on this formula. Good shiny coats, steady energy levels, and regular stools once transitioned. It did make their breath a little stinky but that’s expected with a fish based diet. My only complaints are the kibble is super tiny and thin so I don’t think my dogs chewed it and that my bag arrived with a hole in it. The food looked fine and fresh so I still fed it (no problems) and opted not to call for a replacement.
