This heater may be used with a hermit crab habitat. It is generally recommended they be housed in a habitat with a temperature no lower than 75°F. The 4-watt model is suitable for tanks from 1 to 5 gallons.

This heater may be placed on the under the terrarium or it can be side mounted. Remove the protective paper from adhesive side of heat mat, place adhesive side of heat mat to outside of glass terrarium. Then rub the heat mat evenly until it is firmly adhered to the terrarium bottom. If placing under, place the rubber spacers under each corner of the terrarium bottom, making sure that the terrarium does not rest directly on the heat mat electrical cord when in use.

Can this be hooked up to a thermostat to control the temperature of the heater?

Before purchasing my reptile friend I did my research and found out I needed an Under Tank Heater(UTH) both for warmth and proper digestion and all that good stuff. I shop chewy ALL the time and found this Zilla mat; I know a lot of pet stores carry Zilla products so I ordered one. When it got here I followed all instructions, stuck it to the bottom of my tank, rubbed it down all over to make sure it stuck, avoided setting the tank on the cord, plugged it in. It got nice and warm, I left the room and came back about 15 minutes later to find it laying on the floor. I put it back in place and left the room again. (This time for a longer period) When I came back into the room, it was on the floor AGAIN. SO, I contacted chewy and told them the problem and they immediately sent me another heating mat, free of charge. While I was waiting on this second mat to show up I had a toothbrush I used for scrubbing the tank just laying around. Using the handle of the toothbrush, I put the mat back on the tank and with the toothbrush sideways and some force behind it and pressed down on the mat and ran the toothbrush up and and down it about 5 times. It hasn't fell off since! But just in case it does and decides not to go back on I have the spare! All in all, if you can find a better UTH, buy it! If you end up with this Zilla brand heat mat and have the same problem, all it needs is a little more force and a sturdy toothbrush! Once getting it to stick I was very pleased with its performance!

I've been raising reptiles for 10+ years now, and this model of heat pad is one of my favorite go-to's. This product gets warm enough to please the reptiles but does not get hot enough to scorch their bellies like electric heat rocks will. One should note, however, that this won't change the temperature of the air in the cage itself so thermometers may not be a reliable way of judging if the reptile has enough heat. Don't use it near water or on fish aquariums because it can cause glass to crack. This pad also takes several hours to warm up all the way so don't throw it out if it doesn't get hot immediately. I recommend the pad for nocturnal snakes, nocturnal lizards, spiders, scorpions, and hermit crabs. If you get the large model, plug it into a compatible thermostat to control the temps because it is a very powerful heater. Great product overall

The only part that stays even remotely warm is the part of the tank without any water around, even though I bought the biggest size- the side wall. It isn't doing what I intended it to do. The adhesive is ridiculous too, barely sticks and leaves an impossible mess to clean on the glass. I wouldn't recommend for any aquatic animals.

The traditional heating pads turn off automatically after a short period of time (for safety); and if you buy the ones you can by-pass that, they cost an arm and a leg!!! So I thought I'd try this heat source. I cover it in a pillow case, and put it under the (pee) pads I use under the babies. It works beautifully. It's small enough to provide a heat source, and allow the babies to get off the heat if they need to. And they are so much less expensive than traditional heating pads (and less bulky).

I don't use it for reptiles. It's great for low-budget wildlife rehab! The size is nice and small so it can cover roughly half of a carrier/small kennel. This gives the animal a decent "temperature gradient" choice. Since the heat is not too strong, I can just place a thin towel over it and the temperature is good enough for the baby birds that I rear. I can also see this being good for baby mammals. Of course, incubator and/or thermostat is better but this is great for the price. I use it for my baby animals that are already (almost) old enough to thermoregulate themselves.

After receiving this product in the mail very promptly, as usual with Chewy.com, I began to assemble it and realized that the product can only be placed on one time and never taken off because the glue does not allow it to adhere well. Because I really needed the heat mat, I stuck it to the bottom of my tank and after 24 hours I checked it and it had fallen off the tank and there was no getting it back on. I searched reviews on the product afterwards and every review was negative and complained about the same problem. I learned my lesson with this one.
