Hey Mikey, he likes it!
My dog was recently diagnosed with renal disease. The vet gave me an 8 oz bag of kibble from another name brand. I was heartsick that my dog wouldn't eat it. Nor would he eat a couple of different canned renal diet foods. I was afraid his disease would cut his life even shorter by not eating his special diet food. I contacted Chewy Bout trial nags or their return policy. I was pleased to hear if my dog wouldnt eat it, thebunused portion could be returned. I decided to try the Blue Buffalo renal diet and my very picky dog liked it. He now seems to be feeling better and I know that he will have more time with me by eating what his body needs.
So far, so good!
My vet said I needed to start feeding my elderly dog a kidney-safe diet. He's been on Blue Buffalo Wilderness for years and I'm pretty sure that's part of how he's gotten to 18 and is just now having health issues. (Don't tell him he's old, though. He still thinks he's a puppy.) I'm still transitioning him, but he's eating it well. I add water to help keep him hydrated and to make it easier on his teeth. It's the same basic ingredients as his old food, but in different ratios, so I'm comfortable that it's safe for him (he has some sensitivities). The only downside is that it's expensive. Considering that it's the same ingredients as the non-prescription food, it's a steep markup. It's in line with other kidney diets, though, and if my dog will eat it and it helps keep him healthy, I'm not too mad about it.
So-so for my girl
When my girl was diagnosed with kidney disease, she went home from the vet with a bag of this food. She wasn't too crazy about it and the pieces are thick and hard. The size and texture of the kibble I would say is the biggest issue for my dog (she is a toy breed). She would eat it but struggle to crunch it as she is old and doesn't have all of her teeth. As her kidney issues progressed she got to the point of not wanting to eat it at all so we tried other kidney diets including many canned formulations. They are all a struggle but she did like the kibble Science Diet kidney diet.
Dog does not like it
This was recommended by my vet for my dogs kidney disease. My 4 pound chihuahua won’t eat it, which is a shame. The kibble is rather large for a small dog to eat.
My 13 year old Rottie has developed kidney issues. Since starting this food and the canned version as a topper, his kidney values have improved. I gave the food 4 stars because the pellets are too hard for his old teeth requiring adding water to the pellets before feeding him. The canned formula appears to have a lot of potatoes in it.
He likes it!!!
My dog has just been diagnosed with kidney disease. I’ve given him several prescription diets and he didn’t like any of them. He likes this one. I would recommend it.
Tried the Science Diet Kidney support from the Vet's office and he was having nothing to do with it. Bought this Blue Buffalo kidney support food and devours it!! He's never been a food driven dog in any manner, but he's borderline with this food. He's a 13 year old Lhasa. Kibble size is perfect for him. Thanks Chewy and Blue Buffalo!
Dogs like it!
My dogs are crazy picky. It’s always been a challenge finding something they’ll eat. We worried about this when one of our dogs was diagnosed with stage 2 kidney disease, but low and behold they like it! This food was recommended by our vet.
Great product but punctured bag :/
I love this product since my senior girl has had cardiac issues, medications and then kidney issues. My picky chihuahua actually likes it. I continue to have issues with how the products arrive though. This time, the box seemed fine but the dry food bag has tiny punctured holes everywhere. Not good since there are also tiny pests in Florida. :/
pooping healthy, thanks Blue
Pooping healthy now, thanks Blue ... This food has helped her with staying regular. And she likes it just as much as the other kidney safe foods. Really helped her a bunch .
