The top comes off WAY too easily. The slightest bump from a hyper kitten will cause it to continuously spill water onto the floor because of the way it's designed. My cats were playing while I was sleeping and when I woke in the morning, the top had been tilted. It had poured water all over my floor, emptying everything above the minimum line. It was filled before I went to bed. Hoping there's no water damage as this holds a good amount of water, and I don't know how long the water was just standing on the floor.
The motor is so loud unless it is filled all the way to the top way past the fill line, if not it makes an awful grinding noise and bubbling noise. There is no indicator to tell you when it needs to be refilled which I guess it doesn't need since it is SO LOUD when it needs to be refilled. I absolutely hate it, I have taken the top off and just let my puppy drink out of the bowl. I wish I could return it. If you like quiet this water dish is not for you.
Got in Dec. cause my cats a faucet drinker, & didn't think she drank enough. In Jan she started watching the little bubbles inside, & figuring out how to get to them! With her teeth she pulls lid up & aside then it sits pumping water onto the mat & floor until I notice it. Used duct tape on corners, which was a pain when needed to take off. Then she started pulling on cord, caught her a few times before she totally flipped it! It's been fine few months I've had it. Got to get a new one w/different lid design, cordless & can't see bubbles! Gonna give this to my nephew, hope it works well for his Si & that Si isn't fascinated with tiny bubbles!
The water going through sounds like “slurping”, not like flowing water. Also, refilling is not very convenient at all. You have to remove the top which contains the filter and mechanisms, so water makes a mess. My cats seem to like it though.
This fountain is terrible. It wasn’t easy to clean, filters are expensive to replace and they don’t clean the water very well. Water pump hardly has any power to it. Of course the fountain stops working just after a year of purchase so it isn’t replaceable/refundable. And to replace just the motor is nearly as expensive as buying a whole new system. You get what you pay for.
This fountain works well when the motor doesn't go out. After 3 of these, I'm done. I keep them clean, always filled with water, so there's no reason the motor should burn out. This last time it was working fine, unplugged it to do my regular bi weekly cleaning, and when I plugged it back in, it no longer works. I tried everything, the power adapter works, just not the motor. Very disappointing.
I would have to agree that it is disappointing because my pump only lasted 6 months and 6 days. I followed the care instructions as indicated in the directions. Not sure if that's a standard for cat fountains??? Anyway the fountain was fine up until that point.
My six cats all love this fountain. I have two of them and they work great! I bought an extra pump to have on hand just in case, but almost two years later they are still going strong. With 6 cats using the fountains, I clean them weekly and change the filter every other week. I’m very happy with this product!!
Actually the dog loves it more than the cat. The cat is focused on where and how it works but he does drink from it.
On a whim I bought one for the upstairs bathroom. After realizing all the animals flocked to this fountain for drinks, I added another just for the cats, downstairs. They are very quiet except when the water is low, which is just a reminder to fill them! I would definitely recommend the extra filter box, as sponges in the set come as well, and you will want them as they do absorb a lot of impurities, or the random cat food piece. Your animal will be much healthier, as I have now read how cats are attracted to moving water to drink it. I always thought they were just odd when they would paw at the water and drink. Now I know!
