During Lactation and Puppies up to 6 months old, require twice the amount of food as an Adult dog and they should be fed 3 - 4 times a day. Puppies, 6 months to a year, twice daily. Senior and Overweight Dogs may be fed a reduced amount, depending on the dog's weight and activity level. The above Daily Feeding Guidelines are a good starting point on the amount of food suggested to be fed on a daily basis. If you feed more than once per day, simply divide the Daily Feeding Guidelines by the amount of times fed per day. Fresh water should be available at all times.

Transition Instructions

We have found that the smoothest transition from one dog food to another is to mix the foods together. When changing to CANIDAE some dogs may do better by making a gradual transition over 7 - 10 days. Start with 25% of the new food mixed with 75% of the previous diet and gradually increase the new while decreasing the previous until the transition is complete

  • Food switch

We went through four different kinds of puppy chow before we found one our labradoodle would eat, and even then he would only finish it if we put in a food enhancer. Well, he just turned one so we switched him to “big boy” food. We choose the Canidae all life stages, and for the first time in six months, he finished his food in one sitting, and was excited when we went to the food canister for his next refill. Love the Chewy auto fill option, especially when I didn’t have to run out into our Buffalo, NY winter to lug home a 44lb bag of dog food!

  • Doing well on this food

    By on

I have two different breeds on this food (a hound mix and a Bernese) which seem to be doing well on it. I haven’t noticed too much of a difference with their coats on this though. The only complaint I have so far is that it does make their stool softer. My dogs are used to getting people food every now and then but with this food I can not give them any type of people food, if I do their stool is runny. I might try them on the Eagle brand to see if it would be any better with their stool, after reading reviews both are pretty comparable with the exception of dog’s choice in taste.

  • Good for my Tervuens

    By on

The pups are at 7 months and seemed to be getting a little bored with their Victor kibble. I have my 15 year old on Canidae Senior and they both try to get to that anytime they can so I wanted something to change things up for them. I'm currently mixing Victor and this at 1/2 & 1/2 and they are both eating great again. No issues, no sickness or change in stools. They've been on it for 2 weeks now and I haven't seen any concerns at all.

  • Quality over Price!

    By on

I have been raising dogs my whole life and always look for quality food. After finding the food I look at pricing. The quality is much more important. Keeping my dogs healthy and happy means the most. I feed my 2 golden retrievers 55# and 70# about 2 cups a day. Period. Less more absorbing the protein means less poop! Yay! It may be more expensive but I am feeding them much less than most people feed using cheaper food. The last golden retriever I eventually had to put down was happy and health to the age of 22 YES TWENTY TWO! So don't balk at the pricing so much. Besides, you get free shipping and, if you're smart, you'll get on the auto-ship.

  • Great product!

This product was recommended by the breeder after I mentioned what was happening with the brand my dog was consuming. I put Kurt on Halo's ever since I got him as I believed their advertising. Recently, Halo's changed the food to holistic - which I had no problem with - however, they lowered the contents and raised the price to the point I could not afford it. • Good quality food

    By on

I have two Aussies. One will eat anything, the other is very picky. I have tried various grain free foods with my picky eater. She seems to tire of them quickly but so far, she eats this food eagerly and has even tried to go down the basement where I keep the bag. She has never done that before. My other Aussie is diabetic and this food seems to be good for him as well.

  • Dogs say Nummy

Have been using this product for years. This review actually about Chewy. Appreciate the convenience of shopping "on line" and really appreciate your timely response to my order. I barely submitted the order when it arrived at my door. Two days, wow, now that's remarkable. Can't beat the price either. Will be ordering again once the dogs polish off this bag.

  • Flavor????

Wendy does not really like this food. In general, she's a bit piggy. I bought this food because it was listed as much healthier than the different brands of kibble I've been feeding her, but although she will eventually eat the food, she lets it sit for a long time.

  • I love this food!

    By on

This food is great! I’m a momma of four female pittbulls who all are different ages and all have different appetites and all four of them love the canidae food! The 44 lb bag does wonders especially for the price. If they ever decided to make a larger bag that would be awesome!

  • Poor Reaction

I have had my dog on Canidae for a while, and it is really a good food, but in the past 3-4 months he started to itch constantly, develop red spots on his stomach, and have black-head type thing present. Literally the last thing I went through and ruled out was the food, because Canidae is held in such high regard. That said, after consulting with the vet, I switched him to a food that used one protein, Blue Buffalo Chicken and Rice, and his problems dramatically improved within a week. His scratching greatly diminished and the red bumps and black head type things on his stomach have gone away. Unfortunately this happened early into my 44lbs bag, but in the future I will stay away from using I have had my dog on Canidae for a while, and it is really a good food, but in the past 3-4 months he started to itch constantly, develop red spots on his stomach, and have black-head type thing present.
