They always show offline.
When they work, they work fine. But every time I login they show offline. I have 4 of these and they all do the same, so it most be an issue with the software. I have to refresh or close app and reconnect several times before it finally works. Too much hassle for how expensive these things are.
I received this feeder as a gift in 2019, three years later still working great, I give it five stars for my experience but my sister was unable to connect hers to wifi, hence the four stars. The camera feature not only let me check in on my dogter it also serves as an extra security camera. Took a couple tries to connect to wi-fi but after a few tries I have it set up for scheduled feeding , very simple you just indicate the portion size and and it also allows for you to add your voice in case you running a little late during meal times your furbaby can still hear you call them to eat!
Worked for 6 months
I purchased this back in May 2021. It worked great for the whole summer and I had no issues. Easy set up and all that. Fast forward to about a few months ago and the feeder started to disconnect from the app. I'd follow the instructions to bind the feeder again to my app/phone, but it wasn't working. I had to then turn off my wifi router, turn it back on, then go through the connection process again. I've had to do this 1-3 times some weeks, with the occasional full week of no issues. But now, that doesn't work anymore. I have been trying for days to get the feeder to connect to the app with absolutely no luck. I've reset my wifi multiple times, keep trying to reconnect, and it just doesn't work. I also bought an Art Pets autofeeder that was bundled with a Wyze camera, and I've had no issues at all with either of those. So I think if you are okay with spending a bunch of money for something to work for the short term, then Dogness might be for you. But if you'd like your product to last longer than 6 months, look elsewhere.
We received the Dogness automatic WiFi Dog and Cat Feeder in typical Chewy fashion. The box appeared to be opened during transport, however once unpacked you could see it was previously used. The unit was scratched and the bowl still had food inside (ick) Really? Not all the parts were inside. Obviously someone had already received the feeder and returned it for one reason or another and Chewy repackaged and sent it out without QC'ing the shipment! What a Christmas Nightmare! The elf on the shelf and Chilly our cat were very disappointed. We will be leaving on Monday for our vacation and there will be no food for Chilly while we are away! Santa's going to put coal in Chewy's stocking this year!
Would not recommend this product
Could not get the unit to connect with the wi-fi and there was not a QR code on the back of the unit to scan. Tried calling twice to "customer hotline" which would imply that you would be able to get help with your situation in a relatively short time. Had to leave a message on their "hotline" both times without getting a response back. This is not what I would call customer service. I am going to send the unit back and get my refund for this product. This item was not made in the USA and I am not sure if it was properly assembled. It did not have the QR code on the back of the unit. How could that pass inspection????
Geriatric cats can be tech savvy too...
My adult children gave me the "Tiffany Blue" feeder 1 year ago because I kept saying...I can't leave the cats. The day it arrived from Chewy (of course) it was set up, introduced, I left. Quite the entertainment for all involved. Mom on cell sounding like a crazy person chatting with fur babies, one cat can be seen outside on neighbors roof until he realized it dumped food all day. Second cat had a cartoon face trying to find "Mom" where the speaker was talking. Unit has worked flawlessly the entire year, unless human error was involved. I didn't realize how much I loved this until I couldn't use it anymore. I had to switch both cats to Surefeed system. 2 cats, 2 prescription diets...if ANYONE thinks this simple wonderful feeder is hard, try teaching TWO geriatric cats learn to use a specific chip reading feeder that has to open and close by their face, after having a feeder with "Mom's" voice. Back to I can't leave the cats, after a glorious year of freedom.
App connection poor
The DOGNESS app is poor and never connects properly to the units. Units on the app always display as being offline when they are not. Difficult to monitor feeders when not at home thru the app.
Just starting using it
I used this for the 1st time for a 6 day trip. I had no trouble setting it up. I had more trouble putting the batteries in because one of the springs was giving me an issue. I read some people had issues with setting it up, it wasn’t that bad for me. I just scanned the QR code and followed the instructions. The print of the instructions could be bigger, that would be helpful. I do wish we would get an alert when my cat was at it. But I do like that we can hear each other. I also like that the camera doesn’t time out while you’re watching it for a longer period of time. I had no connection issues while away. I was able to log in and view from my hotel, a taxi and while out and about. I do recommend it at this point. But it is still early on.
bad unit, bad translations
Another one that won’t connect. I have one of these from a couple years ago, and just bought a second one. The old one took a couple days to connect to the wifi, but stays connected now. The new one won’t connect at all. It’s clearly a problem with the product, not my wifi. The alternative connection method also doesn’t work. And the instructions are almost incomprehensible in some places, one of the worst translations I’ve seen in a while.
I have two new adult kitties and have been working hard to regulate their food intake. I also want them to feel comfortable with a feeding schedule if I should not be home. This Smart Feeder does the job. While we are still working out their particular patterns, this product makes it easy to feed either a number of times a day or once (and then suppliment later with wet food.) The only complaint is that the portion sizes are metric rather than in cups and ounces. The conversion is a bit complicated in figuring out the equivalent measurements (and calories the cats need) but after a week, we're finally managing it and they no longer gobble all the food at one time. We are all very happy.
