Can you freeze unused portions of the canned food? If yes, how long can it be stored in the freezer?

My dog is a 1yr old samoyed she weighs 35lbs and vet recommend KD canned and ID dry how much canned should she get daily we have the 12 oz canned chicken stew

I see the feeding for my 10lb dog is 1 can a day but the Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Kidney Care Beef & Vegetable Stew Canned Dog Food for 10lb is 2 1/3 per day. Is that correct?

Answer by ChewyMar 21, 2018
The size of the can will determine how many cans you'll feed per day. A 10 pound dog will have one 12 ounce can. If feeding a 5.5 ounce can, a 10 pound dog will have 2 1/3 cans.

Can you mix this with other dry

Answer by ChewyJun 26, 2018
This food can be mixed with dry food.

This is the only food my 14 year old frenchie with last stage kidney failure would eat! We tried all 3 flavors and chicken stew is the only one that doesn’t make him vomit. If he eats beef he vomits couple hours later. Beef stew smells very acidy. Just from its smell I can see why it irritates his tummy. And regular chicken is also super heavy for sensitive tummies. I would recommend feeding only 1-2 spoons mixed with water to the soup texture and warm up. We feed 5-6 times a day small portions. He loves it and doesn’t throw up. He is on last stage kidney failure and last time we gave him Cerenia was 2 weeks ago. We also give him Nordic omega 3, vetriscience kidney health chewies (mixed in food with RX Phos Bind), daily home fluids. We stopped giving ANY snacks at all. In May we were told he has couple months left to live! But our fur baby is doing good! And with this plan he doesn’t need cerenia or entyce (appetite stimulant). Good luck to everyone who is fighting this horrible desease.

Our Little Emily loves this food. I was giving her the Renal care hard food and did so many things to get her to eat it. With the wet food she, she craves it. Wakes us up at 0400 b/c she wants more. So yes, we give her what she wants and so we just don’t sleep anymore. We find sleep over rated. The food smells to high heaven but who cares.

RIP to our 16.5 year old shelter dog Finn who had kidney disease. Chewy’s customer service is the best we have experienced! Someone picks up usually on the first ring and are always helpful. We used this canned food along with a little bit of ID to help with flavor. ID has more protein and less fat but has flavor and also helps to keep the stool firmer. KD can make the stool softer. I also mixed KD kibble with a little ID kibble, again for flavor. He preferred eating kibble but we did feed him wet food once or twice a day. We did subcutaneous fluids for 4 months which helped him too. Overall I think this food helped him live about a year longer. Again thank you Chewy

In a nutshell, my dog was very ill, not eating or drinking and her creatinine rose to 2.9 ! My vet referred her to an internal medicine vet and she was admitted to hospital for 48 hrs. of intense IVs. They got her back to eating some as well. She was discharged to me with her creatinine down to 1.9. I started with the Science Diet k/d dry kibble and the k/d chicken and vegetable stew mixed together warming slightly in microwave and shockingly she loved it (she also likes it cold from fridge too, depends on her mood) After a month of only k/d and lots of water (no treats or meat) her recheck creatinine was down even more to 1.6 and she seemed like herself again!!! I was shocked that it actually helped in lowering it even more. Thank you Science Diet people!! There are even biscuits/treats that fit within the kidney diet (Science Diet #10898) that my picky pup eats! She is 12,so I hope staying on this diet gives her a few more great years

I’ve been using chewy for over a decade with my animals and I just don’t know anymore yall. I keep getting squashed cans and it’s not even the delivery you can blame it on bc the box they are delivered in isn’t squashed, it just seems like yall really just don’t care about quality or potential metal shavings being in our pets food with these cans being like this. Things used to be handled with care but I don’t think chewy is the same anymore.

This is great nutritious food for our dog.

Our dog is almost 17. He has a slight kidney issue, so we started him on this food per our vet's advice. Our pup is amazing. Hershey runs, jumps and loves to play

We’ve ordered food for Princess from Chewy many times and have never had an issue until now. Unfortunately, 4 cans in this order were completely spoiled. When opened, there was visible mold on top of the food and the entire contents were rotten. This is very concerning and not something I’ve experienced before with this product. Please inspect cans carefully before feeding to pets.

Hill’s K/D line of dog food has helped my 10-year-old dog feel 100% better! When she was first diagnosed with kidney disease she wasn’t eating, she was losing weight, she was inactive, and not at all herself. My vet recommended the K/D dog food and blood pressure medication, which is what we did. We buy the K/D Kibble and add a couple spoons of the canned food. The K/D diet made an amazing difference! Chichi is happy and active again, and more like herself! Gave it 4 stars because at first she gobbled it up, but now she isn’t as eager to eat it. She eventually does when she realizes that’s all she is getting. Maybe it lacks flavor? Not sure, but happy she’s eating it and it works!!!

Tucker was diagnosed with kidney failure in March at the age of 16.6. My vet advised me to feed him anything he wanted and love on him and consider euthanasia. After researching and trying pumpkin goats milk and home cooked chicken and rice we continued to deal with loose stools and dehydration. So I decided to try Hill’s as a last resort. Within two day and transitioning to Hills we had normal stools and have been for over 10 days now. I would highly recommend Hills.
