The Music Festival Fashion Trends Your Pup Can Pull Off, Too

Music festival season is finally here! And you know what that means: all the ‘Gram-worthy garb. Whether you’re heading to a dog-friendly music festival or just want to get your pup in on the fashion fun, we created a guide to selecting the most on-trend and stylish music festival-inspired outfits for dogs.

And to get the scoop on what styles are trending this year, we spoke with fashionista and dog mom Holly Barzyk, a Washington, D.C.-based public relations pro who was named one of Washingtonian magazine’s Style Setters.

Ahead, Barzyk’s identified five popular fashion trends, including some classic ones, that we can expect to see–and, for some trends, have already seen–on festival grounds this year. And more importantly, they’re all trends your pup can easily pull off, too.

Barzyk has one word to describe denim: “timeless.” And we’d have to agree.

You’d have to go back almost 100 years to find a time when denim wasn’t popular. In fact, blue jeans–invented by Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis–will celebrate its 150th birthday in May 2023.

The denim trend is so hot this year, plenty of celebs rocked the trend at Coachella this past April, including Camila Cabello, who paired ripped denim shortalls with a crochet bra.

The trend is already popular among pups, too: Even Barzyk’s 9-year-old pied French bulldog, Millicent, has her own denim dress adorned with tiny white stars. And as a bonus, the dress came with a matching leash.

Thus, we recommend pairing a rainbow-embroidered denim dress with tutu with the light denim leash from FurHaven. Customers love the cute-cool factor of the outfit, and that the leash has an expandable, shock-absorbing bungee.

Western wear had a moment at Coachella (we see you, Vanessa Hudgens, in your super-chic, cowboy hat and turquoise necklace). So, expect lots of Lollapalooza outfits this year to include cowboy hats and boots, bandanas, and fringe.

While it might be hard to convince your pup to wear cowboy boots, Barzyk says bandanas are a great option.

“They’re super cute, and I also think they are popular because pooches don’t seem to mind wearing them–thus, easy for dog moms and dads. It’s a very simple accessory,” she says.

Bucket hats are believed to have been introduced around 1900, but you probably remember them in more recent history as being super popular accessories in the ’80s and ’90s.

Well, bucket hats are back for the summer (hello again, Hudgens, and your neon-hued oversized bucket hat!) and are likely going to pop up as functional fashion in plenty of future Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo outfits. (They’re trendy and keep the sun out of your eyes.)

Barzyk calls bucket hats an “easy accessory.” They’re also versatile because you can rock one whether you’re dressed up or down.

Fun fact: The art of tie-dyeing is actually thousands of years old. One of the oldest techniques, Bandhani, was practiced for over 4,000 years in South Asia.

Tie-dye as we know it today became groovy in the ’60s and ’70s. While Barzyk admits she’s not a fan of the tie-dye trend, she acknowledges it’s a classic one that has never really gone away. Someone, somewhere, is always wearing tie-dye. And if you’re planning a trip to Bonnaroo, you’re bound to see plenty of it.

If you’re the tie-dye type, consider donning your dog in a cozy hoodie, snazzy collar, or cooling dog vest perfect for those hot festival days.

Floral crowns were a part of nearly every festival outfit for a hot minute; but, for the most part, they’re gone. However, floral prints have been trendy for over 70 years, dating back to the 1950s. It hit grandiose–or as some may say, “gaudy”–levels in interior design in the ’80s (yes, one can have too much floral prints in a home); but throughout recent history, florals have remained incredibly popular in fashion.

Why? Simply put: Florals are pretty—especially when they’re as delicate and understated as the crop top Carly Rae Jepsen wore to Weekend 2 of Coachella.

“They invoke a sense of fairy-esque whimsy, which I adore,” Barzyk says, adding that she saw a ton of florals in this year’s Coachella outfits.
