The Franklin County Regional Dog Shelter opened in 2012 when Sheriff Christopher Donelan responded to the unmet need in the community for a place to house and care for stray and unwanted dogs. Because the shelter had to be self-sustaining, the non-profit Friends of the Franklin County Regional Dog Shelter was established as a 501(c)(3) to raise money for the shelter's services.
Our goal since we opened has been to disprove the conventional wisdom that dogs "break down" in a shelter environment. We model our services after a day care center; we work to deliver individualized care, repair lost confidence, and restore joy to both canines and the humans who give them homes.
