About Us
Prison Pet Partnership, operating within the Washington Corrections Center for Women, has been a model for the nation in the rehabilitation of incarcerated individuals.
PPP programming provides an opportunity for incarcerated individuals to experience the positive mental health impacts of the human-animal bond while learning vocational skills to earn professional certifications in the animal care field and receive re-entry services - providing opportunity to secure employment upon release. Incarcerated individuals learn to train, groom and board dogs from within the prison.
Since its inception, 700 dogs have been placed in the Pacific Northwest as Service Dogs, Therapy Dogs, and Paroled Pets. Only 3.8% of program participants have recidivised within 3 years of release in comparison to Washington State’s recidivism rate of 19%. The transformative experience impacts all involved – the incarcerated women, rescued animals, persons with disabilities, adoptive families and our community.
