About Us

Second Leash is a nonprofit organization dedicated to keeping families together by providing temporary foster care for dogs whose owners are facing incarceration, treatment programs, homelessness, medical emergencies, or other life challenges. We believe a crisis should not mean a permanent goodbye. Instead of forcing loving owners to surrender their pets, Second Leash creates a safety net by connecting dogs with compassionate foster homes until reunification is possible. During their stay, dogs receive love, stability, care, and support while their owners work toward a fresh start. By protecting the bond between people and their pets, we help reduce shelter overcrowding, prevent unnecessary rehoming, and give both dogs and their families a second chance.
