Shy Wolf Sanctuary Education & Experience Center (SWS) started in 1993 when founders Nancy and Kent Smith began taking in animals that were not accepted by government animal services, wildlife rehabilitators, or zoos. Their first rescue was a Black Asian Leopard, Moondance.SWS became a 501(c)3 charity in 2001 with an independent board of directors and volunteers who have helped it grow to what it is today. We rescue and provide permanent sanctuary to animals who would otherwise have nowhere to go. Most cannot be adopted as pets, but a few are pet-quality.
