About Us
The Wild Bird Fund is New York City’s only federally-licensed wildlife rehabilitation and education center.
WBF treats more than 9,000 wild birds and animals each year with the goal of releasing them back to the wild. NYC is home or a migratory stopover for more than 350 species of birds, reptiles, and mammals. Our patients range from ruby-throated hummingbirds to mute swans, including rarities such as Virginia rails, peregrine falcons and saw-whet owls. While many animals pass through NYC without incident, others encounter man-made hazards—skyscraper windows, cars and bicycles, chemicals and entangling garbage.
WBF is supported by donations from caring donors, foundations, and corporations. Much of the work at the WBF clinic is done by our more than 200 volunteers.
