About Us
The Appalachian Highlands Humane Society is a nonprofit rescue dedicated to giving animals in need a second chance at life. Since 1994, we’ve served the Appalachian Highlands region by rescuing abandoned, neglected, and homeless pets—providing them with medical care, shelter, and love. We are not affiliated with animal control, local animal shelters, or national organizations, and we receive no government funding. We pull animals from shelters across the region and accept owner surrenders from communities throughout the Appalachian Highlands. Our work is made possible entirely through donations, grants, and the support of our community. Every animal we help is given the chance to heal, thrive, and find a forever home. In addition to rescue and adoption, we provide humane education and outreach to promote responsible pet ownership. When you support us, you're saving lives and giving hope to animals who need it most.
